Oh No! What do I do?

Tonight is pizza night at my house and that usually includes a beer or two and maybe ice cream afterwards. I do not want to violate a family tradition so what do I do?
I enjoy the heck out of my pizza, beer and ice cream. It is one meal, for one day out of the month. So what if I cheat a little. I will make up but cutting my lunch and breakfast calories or (the way I prefer) work it off at the gym before I eat it, and do more at the gym tomorrow.
Just because you have made a lifestyle change doesn't mean you can't take a break and just enjoy yourself every once in a while. Do I do this every Saturday? No. But then again this is my choice. Last time I did I still came in under calories and under most of my macros.
C'mon people. Live a little.

Not all people can "live a little"0

Do some extra work at the gym, have a couple slices of pizza and a beer. Ditch the ice cream since it's just simple sugars. See if you can work the calories into your goal for the day. Don't sweat it if you just do this once a month. You don't have to eat perfect every day, just eat good most of the time. Eating healthy one day won't make you skinny and eating bad one day won't make you fat. Enjoy it.0

What's wrong with simple sugars?
And ice cream has a heck of a lot more to it than sugar, good fats for one thing.0 -
Have a great pizza night with your family!0

if by live a little you mean live in moderation - then go for it!
a small bowl of ice cream isn't as bad as eating a whole quart!!!0 -

I will. Thank you.0 -

That is what I mean. Don't overdo it, but don't restrict yourself so much that when you do let something slip, slip slip so bad you don't want to get back up.0 -
If you're concerned then just portion control everything--have 1-2 slices (depending on the size of the slice) vs half the pizza and have a small portion of ice cream. But if you have a plan to combat it, then have a good time and not think about it.
But yes, once in a blue moon-even the strictest of clean eaters have a bad day. And sometimes we DO need to just "Live a Little"0 -
I had an awesome pizza the other day that was fresh mozarella, fresh tomatoes, and basil (called a Margharita). I measured the cheese - and it wasn't that bad.
Make a regular pizza for everyone else plus a Margarita and share with all. Make sure you eat the Margharita.
I bet you can skip a beer - or drink half of one - without anyone noticing. Or drink a whole one and skip something else.
I eat ice cream OFTEN in a little bowl - 1/4 cup - and then add Greek yogurt to it with nuts like a sundae. I love it - as does my 13 year old son. It's really rich and tastes awesome. Again, not so many calories.
You can do this for 500 calories. Go for a walk and have a good time. If you go a little over, be careful tomorrow. This is a lifestyle change - you can do it.
*******
Personally, I'm going for a long walk so I can have a martini tonight. I've got lots of calories left for this week.0 -
Correction. It is not ice cream, but fat free frozen yogurt!0

If it's once a month, it's not that big of a deal, imo. A person can go crazy eating "good" 24/7 - we all need those splurge days.
I designate my splurge days and don't even bother recording my calories. I had a blast last weekend grilling out and drinking with friends, and it was such a relief to not log every little bite that went in my mouth! And at the end of it all? I still lost a pound and a half this week.
Don't sweat it, as long as it's not an everyday thing. A good fun food day isn't going to ruin every bit of your hard work. ;D0 -
Go for it. Moderation is the key and knowing that you are in control. Have a great nigh.0

I couldn't agree more!0

I completely agree with you. I have no problem finding room in my net calorie goal for a candy bar on almost every day, but I don't have one every single day. If I go over my net calorie goal like I did yesterday....shrug shoulders & move on with making today a great day.
Some people only see things in absolutes. Pizza can be a caloric nightmare, so they avoid it completely. Relax. Practice a little self control and moderation. If pizza is one of those foods where it's hard for you to say no to an extra slice or three, try loading your plate with something healthy before getting to the pizza. Load half your plate with a healthy salad and put one slice of pizza along with it...eat...enjoy....let the fiber and bulk of the low calorie salad settle in before you go back to the pizza box. Serve out one scoop of ice cream and slowly savor the heck out of it instead of sitting down with the half gallon container and a spoon. There are ways to continue having most of the foods you enjoy while getting healthy and losing weight.0 -
Why can't you have a slice of pizza with a side salad and a light beer? No reason you can not enjoy your family tradition just make healthier choices.0

My family has pizza and spaghetti every Friday night... I cook separate spaghetti for myself as my hubby & kids don't care for Barilla Plus and I THOROUGHLY enjoy 1-2 slices of cheese pizza. I plan for this with my workout and watching my calories/macros at bfast & lunch.
I LOVE Friday Night Pizza & Spaghetti!!! Plan for what you like most and don't want to "sacrifice", whether it's wine or beer or ice cream or pizza or whatever food you love. This is a life-long habit of healthy living we're striving for!!!0 -
One of the differences between a "lifestyle change" and a "diet" is learning what moderation is.
Diet: Giving things up, depriving yourself, all or nothing attitude. Short lived, crazy restrictions. Your not even allowed to look at a pizza out of the corner of your eye.
Lifestyle change: Eating healthy, limiting high cal foods, finding a balance with food that you can live with for the rest of your life. Exercise...etc etc
Having a high calorie meal every once in a while is not a bad thing! Just as long as it doesn't turn into a binge, why not have a few beers and 2-3 slices of pizza?
Is it logical to think you will go the rest of your life without eating take out? Probably no. So, eat healthy for the rest of the day and allow yourself a little indulgence. Don't feel bad about it either...this is about changing for the rest of your life and finding a balance.
Sorry to edit....grammar0 -
the important thing is not to beat yourself up for enjoying a family tradition, it's the negative thoughts that really kill us! Have a wonderful night with your family0
-
 I think most people aren't reading your whole post. You already know what to do!0
-
One good glycogen burning, sodium sweating run is enough to cancel out one of my pizza nights, especially at this time of the year.0

Eat the Pizza, Drink the beer, enjoy the ice cream, and start again tomorrow!!!!0

C'mon people. Live a little.
Just eat it, and enjoy.
you have to fit this Pizza night into your new new healthy way of eating, and one night a month is not going to hurt, in fact, it can make the rest of the month easier as you know you have something to look forward to.
Enjoy it0 -
I'm from Buffalo; family owns a pizza place...love pizza! We make our own crust. I recently started making my pizza on a pita. I haven't looked into the nutritional value for the homemade crust yet. I just put healthier choices on mine.
Family had spaghetti the other night. I measured out my pasta and had sauteed veggies on it---it was delicious!0 -
We have friends over for pizza and movies once a month. I go for a nice fast walk in the morning, do my weights, and then have 1-2 slices and some snacks during the movie. Do I go over my calories? Sometimes. Am I "eating clean"? Not according to most of the folks on here.
But I'm happy and healthy and only around 10 pounds over my ideal weight, so . . . that's life. Enjoy yourself. Life is too short to beat yourself up over a slice of pizza. Not like you're eating an entire pizza by yourself every single day all month long. It's all about moderation.0 -
Have a great pizza night with your family!
I will. Thank you.
Remember health and well-being also include the psychological aspects. Having fun with people you love will energize you with a lot more feel-good chemicals than feeling guilty and left-out. You can always work out more the next day0 -
Work out the calorie count well in advance. Figure out how much you want to have and stick with it. Add in a good sized portion of salad as well, then you have something to keep eating while everyone else is having their 5th slice of pizza or second beer. Have a glass of water beside you as well as the beer, and alternate a bit. That might help you only have half as much as you ordinarily would.
Finally, check out the different types of pizza - some are incredibly high calorie (ones with extra fatty meats or extra cheese, and some are really no worse than any other food for a similar sized serving.
Ice cream should be easy with plenty of low fat and low calorie options out there.0 -
75% of what I eat is clean, but I still believe life is to be lived.
We can acknowledge the ideal when it comes to food intake; however, I also accept that I just enjoy McD, Chinese food, Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza - whatever. That's fabulous food! Where I used to indulge twice daily, it's more like twice per week now.
If tofu and carrots sticks brings you new joy, go for it.
As for me?
Pass the onion rings please....:smokin:0 -
Okay first of all.. breeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeathe!!
When I have pizza, I balance the meal with a salad & for protein cottage cheese.
Now as far as the ice cream and beer..... IF you wait two hours after you have pizza then have a small scoop of ice cream and top with a little protein powder.
OR try one of these yummy recipes.. the chocolate mousse or the strawberry sorbet. Make it for you; but enough for them too.
