How do you know when you shouldn't exercise during a cold? I have heard the rule where if it's any symptoms below the throat dont exercise but is this true?

I'm sorry I can't help you much, but to stay on the safe side, I don't exercise when I'm sick. It makes me feel worse :/ Sorry I can't be of much help.

Only you can determine the proper answer to this question. I worked out with pneumonia, some would not.

I think it's up to you. My Mom always tells me she feels better after a workout when she has a cold/virus. I see it as sweating out the virus so I'm all for it (although sometimes you really don't feel like it).

I like to go for a run/workout when I feel sick. May not be the best day but I think it helps me sweat it out.

If you're seriously congested in the chest or have trouble breathing, then don't exercise. Otherwise, I'd still exercise with a cold. I'd just take it a bit easier than I normally would.

I've heard of exercising to help get over a cold, but I never have. :)

In any event, whatever you decide to do, please do it someplace where you don't infect others (e.g. the gym).

If you have a virus, you can overwork your heart if you push it too hard. So personally I'd take things very gently!

I just recently had a cold and still went to my training sessions. The sessions actually helped a lot in clearing out some congestion and making me feel better. However, I was EXHAUSTED and crashed after my session. So it worked both ways I guess :D

I guess it depends on how you feel. I started working out again right after I finished my antibiotic for Bronchitis although I did still need the inhaler

I'm not a doctor so, take or leave my advice.

I would start with a light workout and see how you feel from there. One time I was just getting over a 5 day cold and thought I was better. I worked out way too hard and I was in bed for another 4 days after that. This is coming from someone who works out 6-7 days a week . It had to been bad...really bad, to keep me away from the gym. Don't push yourself unless you are convinced you are getting better. It can prolong it.

    Yes:
    Mild runny nose
Minimum coughing or clearing your throat
    A little tired
    Sore throat-depending on severity
Mild headache- if pills alleviate the pain

    No:
    Fever
    Major headache
    Body ache
    Major coughing
A runny nose that wont stop
Sore throat - depending on severity
    Chest heaviness
    Diarrhea-hell no. haha
    Cold sweats

Working out while I was sick but on the verge of getting better made me sicker the next day and delayed my recovery by a few days. :grumble:
