I am almost at my goal and not happy with the way my body looks. Everyone keeps telling me how good I look and I dont need to loose anymore wieght because then "you might look funny". My husband swears that the roll that is still around my stomach will always be there unless I have surgery. He also says that this is all in my head and I dont see myself clearly. He also is convinced that Im becomming obsessive with my body and its unhealthy and I will end up looking sick not healthy.

The result of this is I have eased up in the gym and have increased some of my cals. back in. But this makes me feel horrible and I worry than about gaining the wt back and destroying what I have worked hard for......BUT HERE IS THE CATCH ....I'm still 174lbs at 5'7 I wear a size 14 and still have a BMI that is over at 27.

Is My husband right or should I continue with this road and see where it takes me?

First of all, great job on how far you've gotten!... I think that you have to do whats right for you. If you would like to lose a little more and tone up more thats ok in my opinion. Try not to become obsessive just focus on being healthy and feeling good

  • I think you should congratulate yourself on what you have accomplished! I know my husband is not terribly supportive of my efforts - I think he misses his eating partner and I think it makes him "see" how horrible his own eating habits are. I think it is great that your husband loves the way you look and wants you to look healthy, not skinny. However, I think that the decision on how you look and how you take care of your body is your choice alone. My suggestion would be to focus on % body fat and adding lean muscle. I had a roll around my stomach also, but it is 95% gone now after losing 48 lbs. If you lose your fat and add muscle, you will not look skinny, but fit and you will be healthy! Stay the course and be true to yourself!!!
ps, I have gotten a lot of great information and help with exercise and meal plans from Tom Venuto and "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle".

I'm sure that your Dr would want you to get your BMI in the healthy range. Keep that as your goal.

If you're not happy yet, why stop? This is your body, and your journey...

I agree - consult your doctor. Not only will he put your mind at ease, he will also be a good tool for back up if he tells you to lose more. After all, if anyone gives you grief you can just tell them you are following your doctor's orders.
  • Hi, I just wanted to say you look great and you should be very proud of yourself! Try not to focus on the BMI, it is actually not very accurate because it does not take in bone or muscle size. The American Medical Association is actually thinking of getting rid of it because of it's inaccuracy. With your abdomen, look and decide if it is skin or fat. Skin from having children will not go away, that will need surgery. If it is fat though, it will. Good luck and keep up the awesome work!

If you're not happy, you're not happy, so you have to do it for you! Just as a comparison, I am 5'6 and I weigh 153, wear a size 10 pants, and my BMI just went into the healthy range a few days ago. I am much thinner than I was, but I am not completely happy with what my body looks like. My goal is 140 and hope to be a size 8 then.

It's all about how you feel and how your clothes fit; I don't completely buy into the whole BMI thing--I think everyone is different. So you decide what you wanna do and everyone else will deal with it ;):flowerforyou:
