Just curious if there is anyone with this condition that found it improves once the weight comes off..? I dont want to live on anti-inflamatories, or get cortisone shots....but more importantly I dont want it to stop or hinder my exercising! Dr says to keep icing it, stretching it....but long term there isn't much else they can offer...
Thanks!
Thanks!

For me, with my weight loss, came more activity and unfortunately mine is still bad. I tried running and it got unbearable. So, walking it is. It's such a debilitating thing!0

Have you tried orthodics? They really help.0

Thanks ladies...I was afraid that was going to be the answer Dr did mention orthotics...may have to go that route.0

I have done it all, I have the orthotics from the doctor...they help me get around, however, that is with, the most restricted efforts to reduce the pain outcome. I go to water class to workout, that is amazing..its nice to feel free of pain and NOT feel pain when you are done..But my problem now is I have to add more workouts to keep going and I amd dreading the pain to come...And I HATE it when everyone tells me to loose wieght and then blow me off, as if my pain is not important enouph to validate...I want someone, including my doctor, to help with problem B (feet) so I can fix problem A ( my wieght)0

I have had it for 8 years. There isn't much they can do except treat the symptoms, unless you have a very severe issue. The biggest help has been the orthotics. Get them custom made from a podiatrist if at all possible. If you can not go that route google them and order some of the HARD ones that will go from under the heel to the base of your toes. Don't waste your money on the soft squishy ones or the gel ones, they offer no support at all. After wearing orthotics for 3-4 weeks you will have a dramatic improvement. You must use them consistantly, even in your house slippers. Going barefoot is the worst thing to do until the issue is under control.
Other things that help..... bottle of frozen water that you roll under your foot, peppermint lotion with massage, lower heeled shoes that are not spike heels and wrapping/strapping at night. You really need to go to a podiatrist for the best treatment options for you though. Losing weight helps, but the damage has been done and you need to learn how to manage with it.0 -
Hi Everyone.
I have that also. I try to do the stretching of my foot , the dr said if you stretch your foot daily. It does help that.0 -
My mom had it and eventually had to have surgery, but she had a really ingenious way of stretching and icing at the same time. You know those frozen cans of fruit juice concentrate? Use your foot to roll the juice container. You could also use a marble rolling pin.
Good luck!0 -
I had this for what seemed like forever. I finally got so bad that I switched to wearing only new sneakers and then went to WalMart and tried the Dr. Schol's kiosk. You stand on it and do a few simple balance tests then it spit out a recommendation for the right shoe insert. I'm happy to report that I have been painfree since about a month after starting to use them. I wear my sneaker with the inserts all the time and I mean all the time. The insert are 100% guaranteed so keep your receipt and if it doesn't help return them.0

I got off-the-shelf Sorbothane insoles, cut waaaay back on my running and other high-impact exercise and built back up slowly, with a new pair of professionally-fitted running shoes.0

On another topic someone posted this article. http://health.yahoo.net/experts/dayinhealth/7-fitness-rules-you-should-break and the very last "myth" is that custom orthopedics are better for you. It stated that off-the shelf versions may actually be better. Which holds true to what I and BerryH said previously.0

I had it a couple of years back tight Achilles caused it. I'm guessing if you're having cortisone you're seeing a physician so they should advise on rehabilitation? If not you need to get or looked at otherwise you risk long term damage. Good luck0

Take a wash cloth and put it on the ground. Sit down and pick the wash cloth up with your barefoot (Use your toes). Lift it up and then drop it. Repeat 10-15 times. Also like someone else said, roll a frozen water bottle or can of frozen juice concentrate under your foot while pulling your toes to your shin. I had it for a few years in high school and these really helped!0
