Maybe try your question under fitness or recipes? I have a friend that had great success, but most of the food she can eat is restricited to the foods on the diets because of extreme dietary allergies...she was happy to find something that didnt include "regular" fair. I believe it is too restrictive. My motto is everything in moderation! Good luck what ever you decide!

I tried it once for seven days on proteins (fish and chicken mostly), oat bran+ low fat cottage cheese + one egg pancake in the morning for breakfast. I lost a little over 6 pounds within the 7 days but then started eating "normally" again and it all came back. My colleague though who I introduced to it lost around 35 pounds on it but she followed it to the letter, did 10 days of protein and then protein and veggies most of the time for a few months. She is not doing it now but is eating sensibly not to gain it all back.

If it's NOT a diet you think you can live with the rest of your life, then it's a temporary fix.

This. Lifestyle changes to how you eat will last, "diets" are temporary and that is why most people gain the weight back when they stop the diet. Find a healthy, comfortable approach to food that meets your dietary needs, allows you to lose weight and that you will want to maintain for a long time.

The Dukan Diet made me feel extremely sick to my stomach, so I had to stop. I did lose some weight in the beginning rather quickly, but it wasn't really worth it to me.

I lost some but put all of them back on when I started eating normally (had to stop because I felt sick).
You need to have 1 protein day a week and watch how many portions of fruit you eat etc ALL your life if you want to keep the weight off and it kinda puts me off as well..

My mother-in-law keeps trying to do this diet and swears by it (although she never loses any weight on it) and I like to call it the constipation diet. Like others have said, can you really see yourself eating this way forever? I just tend to think that any diet that restricts vegetables is pure craziness.
  • if you dont like carbs and can live without them forever go for it. Personally eating all food groups and working hard is really the only way. I have done Atkins, Montiniac and many other low carb diets or "lifestyle" and they are partly what have got me to my heaviest now... frankly eating healthy and everything in moderation including exercise is the only way to go to really enjoy life and look good...

Thats the problem with restrictive diets...You`ve really got to want to be on them otherwise they just aren`t sustainable.

If you can make the lifestyle change long term...Then pick something your gonna stick to and go for it..

I'm on the Dukan and very happy with it! Its not restrictive as most people mention above. Its only restrictive in the first 2 phases. Once you reach your goal weight, you can eat very normal.

I have had great success on this, as it is easy, and I can stick to it no matter where I go.

As long as you stick to the diet and see it through, you will have lasting results.

You can't, like with any other diet (or lifestyle change, whatever you prefer to call it) expect to see lasting results if you go back to old unhealthy eating habbits once you've lost your weight. If you are prepared to go through all 4 phases of the Dukan, I really reccommend it!

My friend and her mother did it.. and both lost 50 or so pounds I believe doing it.

Her mother went on vacation to Mexico and gained back 6 of the pounds lost.. and now can't lose it and doesn't want to restart the diet.

My friend(while I love her) is a cardio bunny and refuses to pick up a weight. So even though she lost 50 pounds and 4 sizes, she doesn't look any smaller.

So bottom line is it did work for those people.. but personally, I'd never do it.
