Taking the plunge

I joined MFP last week and am on board 100%. Late last year, I already had cut out as much processed foods as possible, eliminating fast food altogether and making our meals at home. I also dropped my pop habit to one a day at dinner and replaced it with water and green tea throughout the day. I'm exercising 3x at 30 mins a day but sometimes it less due to being so large and being difficult for me. I sized up our street last night though and decided to give running a try, lol. I did it. I made it 3 house lengths, which is huge for me. I guess once your in the right mindset, anything really is possible.
I am in the 400s so this is going to be a long journey for me and would love to find others who have a significant amount of weight to lose for support and motivation. Of course, even if you have less to lose and wanna be friends, add me.

Good for you and making the right moves towards a healthier you. I also have a lot to use and understand the whole jog that to most people would look like a slow walk. I tried doing the jog walk a few weeks ago and even though I don't ever expect to be a runner, it was amazing to be able to jog a short distance with out being scared I would fall over gasping for air.
Keep up the great work and you (we) will make it there.0 -
Sounds like you've already made some huge changes in your life. Good for you! And while it all may seem really, really hard now, the important thing to remember is to just keep moving. It doesn't matter what the movement is, if it's not something you're used to, it will affect your body in a positive way.
As for running, please be careful. Every little bit counts, but at your size (and I don't mean that meanly), you could be doing some serious damage to your joints. Check with your doctor before you do something that high-impact.
You can do this. I have absolute faith in your convictions, and I hope you do, too. Good luck, and please keep us up-to-date on how you're doing!0 -
this is brilliant. I can't wait to hear that you've gone a block, a mile, a marathon. Your determination is admirable, and contagious!0

Heh, forgive me. I'm so new to using the web version of MFP that after I posted this, I couldn't figure out how to find my thread. Ta-da! I figured it out just now. Thank you all for the great words and encouragement. I'm still working on the running thing. When I walked with the fella last night I could actually keep up with his pace.0

Aww, thank you. Feel free to add. The more the merrier.
Now that I know where to find my threads, I can reply lol.0 -
While I've not had to lose as much as you, I can say that it is all about having the right "why" which will drive, and continue to build your motivation. You have already made huge steps by changing your diet and cutting out the soda. Keep working to eat I thin your calories and get your body moving. Walks are fantastic. jogging what you can do is also great. Set weekly and monthly goals that you feel you can commit to and meet and you can get to where you want to be.
I'd be happy to help however I can.

Thank you, Greg. I'm usually on here through my ipad so I didnt see this until I actually logged in on the website. Sorry. I still have one can of pop at dinner but outside of that, just water or tea. Keeping track of the calories has been a real eye opener for me. I used to always skip breakfast and sometimes I still find myself skipping but I never realized how many calories I was eating because I figured I dont eat loaves of bread and dozens of eggs, etc like you see a lot of overweight people on TV doing.
My problem was growing up we always ate out or had frozen pizzas. By the time High School rolled around and I could drive, I just kept up the habit. I've lost before and then gained it back and then some. Finally I just gave up and accepted my fate as being fat until I died. Sounds pathetic. Fast forward to last year and I said enoughs enough and started making the changes but I wasnt really having any weight loss success. It wasnt until I logged and could see. So its been a nice awakening. Now I can rattle off how many calories are in this or that, lol.
I can also decide if something small is worth pissing calories away on.... and usually its not worth it.
