Hey I feel like I am on a down ward spiral when at home. I do good until dinner then I don't know what happens but I talk myself out of all my goals and start eating junk. My husband brings home junk for the kids and well I just can't seem to get healthy after about 5 PM when I eat good all day, workout then I just start snacking. My son tells me to just stop it like that but he is 13 and doesn't understand. I told my husband to stop bringing home the junk but that did no good. I have good food around and eat salads and lean meats etc but at night I reach for the hubby and kids bad foods. WIsh I could stick with a plan.

Anybody out there finding success and balance living with family that foils your weight loss plans?

no, but u are not alone. I am good all week and when I sleep over at my bf's for the weekend I am very bad. sigh.

At night, what helps me is brushing my teeth after I've eaten my healthy meal, that way any temptations won't taste as good, nor do I wanna brush my teeth again haha, so I usuallly stay away from junk after that.

i had a big time night time eating problem too. id go all day doing awesome and then just eat all night when no one was around. this may seem silly but i make a box of sugar free jello a couple times a week. 1 box is 4 servings [10 calories each] n i wont lie i could eat all 4 servings if i really wanted too but usually i eat 2 n im mega full. then i feel like i ate something 'bad' for dessert and im satisfied. but i try not to do it too often cause all the fake sugar cant be good. but a couple times a week isn't that bad i dont think!
  • I have the same problem. I do good all day til dinner then I go over my cals. If i can plan my dinner ahead of time and fill out my food diary early that does help..

I like to finish off my last meal with hot tea. It's awesome now too because all of the holiday flavors are out. Try sugar cookie tea sweetened with truvia. It definitely satisfies a sweet tooth. If you get into the habit of drinking it as your very last treat of the day your brain will know when you are done eating. Also, green tea is always good for kicking a craving as well! Hope this help!

oh come on!:noway: maybe he might have a better opinion if you put some stock into what he said. and he is right, one component, is to just stop. it is really up to you and finding out what works for you.

  • IMHO, just don't have those bad foods in the house. Its easier to fight temptation when there is none. If those foods are bad for you, then they are bad for your children as well. If you guys decide you want a treat, then go and get one, but don't keep them on hand. That way you will teach you kids about self control and making healthy choices, and remove the intrnal struggle that you feel when the food is at your finger tips. If your weightloss journey is about getting healthier, then this what you need to do for your health and your family.

I know some people will read this and say its harsh or its not that easy.....

But honestly, it is. I keep fruits and veggies and yogurt and cheeses and crackers and popcorn availabe 24/7. My daughter is onboard with it, it wasn't easy, but it worked. I NEVER restrict either. I usually wait till the weekend, but we do have treats like ice cream, cookies and even soda. We stick to the serving size too and those treats are always after a balanced meal. That way it's never totally off limits, but not overly available either. Another thing is, look at the ingredients of those so-called snack-foods. They tend to be packed with HFCS and preservatives and dyes and GMO's. So, its like I said earlier, if its bad for you, its bad for your family too.

I agree. Actually, it sounds like he understands just the right amount and kids are always openly honest. It scares me that adults actually teach kids that it is normal to not have control over your choices as you get older. Thats a terrible mixed message.

Wow your right but for some reason I find myself being bad when I used to be so good. I like the tea idea and I know my kids do not need the bad stuff so I plan to get the snacks out. Thanks but you know sometimes when I have work comming home my life becomes a big stress ball. I have tried the tea before and brushing teeth and it does work as well as getting the junk out of the pantry. I know my son is right and I did tell him that but I just find myself on auto pilot sometimes and need to just put it down and go to bed when tired or get over it...Thanks all:flowerforyou:

I used to have the same problem and saw it frequently with training clients. Normally, the reason we lose are will-power and self-control in the evening is because we haven't had enough during the day to satisfy us. Meaning if you eat a good breakfast and lunch with lean protein and fiber it will sustain you and your body would feel like you were depriving it all day. The tea idea is good-I haven't tried that. I've found success with the method above as well as drinking a large glass of water or a sugar-free/low-sugar drink. A lot of times we eat when we are truly just thirsty. Hope this helps and good luck over the holidays!!!
