Eating calories burned thru exercise

A friend and I were discussing this today. Are we supposed to eat the calories we burn through exercise? So, if I earn 300 calories thru interval training, etc, do I get an extra 300 calories to use for that day? Opinions, please?

I eat mine back to minimize the loss of lean muscle and keep my metabolism from slowing down and my weight from plateauing, but you won't find a consensus around here!0
