It is hard to offer suggestions without knowing the rest of your regimen. What are your goals? What is your basal intake? What are your exercise habits? There are so many factors that affect weight loss it is hard to focus on just one. Feel free to add me and send a message if you are uncomfortable "throwing it all out there" in a forum.

Well, in the last five weeks I've only gone over my calorie limit five times. My limit is 1200 a day, and I excercise four to six days a week. My excercise includes 35 minutes of cardio, combination of jogging and walking, and 20 minutes of light weights. I had a couple of small goals; lose 10 pounds by July 4, and another 15 by Aug 20.

I have lost a few inches, but I can't seem to drop pounds and it is soooooo frustrating!! Thanks for your help!

    What are you eating?
    You drink enough water?
You eating back your exercise cals?
Have you always exercised or did you pick up a new routine?

I'm not by any means a pro, but I can tell you that eating plenty of veggies and fruits and eating back your exercise calories help. Also and very important is drinking lots and lots of water. If you're already doing this, just keep at it. And if you just started to work out, I hear that your body takes a bit to get used to the physical activity and it may take a few weeks for you to notice any real change. Feel free to add me if you'd like =)

I have been having the exact same issue. My weight will fluctuate by the same 3 pounds and I keep reading the success and motivation message boards to remind my self that slow and steady wins the race. Its just our slow seems to be SUPER SLOW! Don't give up! I try to hold on to the thought that I am improving my life and improving my weight is just a side benefit (not the main goal).

I dare to say 80% of weight loss is food you eat, you can kill yourself with exercise and not get any results if you eat bad stuff afterwards. As long as you have a calorie deficit, you WILL lose weight. Some stuff like sodium may hold you back some if your intake is too high but eventually you would lose weight anyway. Now, it is important to know how to count your calories, I've seen people adding 10 minutes of house cleaning into mfp as 900 calories...no! To burn 900 calories you would pretty damn near run a half marathon, my rule of thumb is 10 min of intense cardio would yield about 100 cals. It is diferent for everyone so, that's just a guidline, you can figure out your own. Anyway, most important thing is what you eat. Sugary stuff will prevent you from losing weight because it would store excess calories as fat. I'd invite you to look at my food diary which is public, but it might not be of any help to you because I am actually trying to gain weight and not lose, but my wife had lost almost 50 pounds in last 3 months or so just by eating better, if you befriend me we can both try to help you out in chosing what to eat etc...

I apologize for the delay in further replies, was stuck working out of town. One thing I would like to point out is that weight is just a number. You need to look at the "big picture". The "big picture" being height, weight, body fat, bmi, fitness level, and general feeling of well being. For example, I am 6'1" and weigh 255lbs (according to metlife I am supposed to be less than 192), with a body fat of 22%, and a BMI of 33.6 (obese). If I look only at BMI or weight, I am a train wreck. However, when you factor in my fitness level and general feeling of well being, I don't look so bad. I'm not saying I don't still have more to lose, my goal is 225lbs with body fat of 16-18%. What I am trying to say is don't base success or failure on a single number. You say you are "losing inches" but the scale is not moving. Muscle is more dense than fat. The same "weight" of muscle will take up less space than the same "weight" of fat. If your workouts are effective then it is possible you are "replacing" some of the fat with muscle mass.

As far as dietary issues, without getting personal and asking about height and weight in order to look at your basic metabolic rate, I agree with a previous post and question whether or not you are eating enough. I know it sounds crazy but you do have to eat to lose. That was a very hard lesson for me to learn. Here is an example. The BMR for a 5'8" 200lb 35 year old female is 1680 calories per day according to the Harris Benedict formula. If you subtract 500 calories per day in order to lose 1 pound per week that leaves a daily allowance of 1180 calories. Now let's subtract another 300 calories per day for exercise (walking/jogging), that we are not eating back. This leaves a total deficit of 800 calories per day and a daily intake of approximately 880 calories. This is not nearly enough daily intake to support basic metabolic function and the body thinks it is starving. I do not know what the minimal intake is for females but just guessing I would not take in any less than 1200 to 1400 calories per day.

Well I feel like I am rambling. Message me or post with any more questions and I'll do my best to answer them.
