Hcg diet injections

Options
Lots of people around where I live are taking these shots and losing lots of weight. Does anyone know anything about them. I always wonder about any new diet that is really drastic and if it's really healthy. I have heard some are eating only 500 calories a day and others are eating 800 calories.

I know nothing about that but it doesn't sound healthy at all. Your body can't possibly get the nutrition it needs with 500 calories! Think about all the fad diets out there. People lose loads of weight but gain it back later because they haven't established healthy eating habits. Just some food for thought!

Here is my opinion, which is all I can give.

My friend too shots and lost weight. She looked like hell, was crabby as all getout and felt like crap. She lost 40 pounds and was 'skinny' and not in a healthy way. She has since gained back every pound, plus the 30 that I lost.

With MFP and changing my diet and exercise habits, I have lost 30+ pounds and kept it off for 6 months. I feel great, I think I look healthy and I have more energy than I have had in 15 years.

I dont believe in shots or pills, just in old fashion changing your habits.

    Good luck!:flowerforyou:

My step mother is doing this. They give themselves shots of pregnancy hormones and yes men are taking it as well. They feast for 2 days, then eat 500 calories for like 30-40 days. She has lost like 20 lbs but anyone would when you are only consuming 500 calories a day. It is not FDA approved and I am afraid in years, when damage shows up from doing this, we will know then why it was not approved. Is it something you can live with the rest of your life, no. Once you stop this you will gain it back and more unless you plan on eating 500 calories a day for the rest of your life. It is as simple as Bob from biggest loser said, it is simple math, you must only intake 1200 (or more depending on your weight) If you want to eat more then you must burn the calories doing exercise. If you want to loose and maintain it for the rest of your life then you must do somthing that you can live with for the rest of your life. Hope this helps. God Bless!

The gal who does my hair did this diet and did great on it. She lost weight fairly fast and was elated. She only at 500 calories a day and in the beginning she was happy, happy, happy. But you know what? 500 calories is NOT enough food to keep a thin, healthy person going. She learned fairly quick that although she lost her goal weight of 53 pounds, she was unable to keep it off as the maintenance portion of the diet was not much more in calories and she had to continue with the injections. It cost her an amazing amount of money and she gained just a little over half of it back. You decide what is best for you. Most physicians won't do these injections as they are not 'proven' to be the main cause of the weight loss. DUH!!! Every single one of us could eat only 500 calories a day and lose weight FAST. Be safe girlfriend.

I have a friend who is doing an injection that makes your body think that you are pregnant and then you only consume 500 calories along with it and it makes you drop weight like crazy. Is that what you're talking about? I can't imagine it's healthy and once you stop the injections I can't imagine you wouldn't gain a ton of the weight back ... and do you seriously want to live life on 500 calories a day? Can't imagine that's a satisfying life

    HCG Worthless as Weight-Loss Aid
    Stephen Barrett, M.D.

Human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) is a hormone found in the urine of pregnant women. More than 50 years ago, Dr. Albert T. Simeons, a British-born physician, contended that HCG injections would enable dieters to subsist comfortably on a 500-calorie-a-day diet. He claimed that HCG would mobilize stored fat; suppress appetite; and redistribute fat from the waist, hips, and thighs [1]. There is no scientific evidence to support these claims [2-13]. Moreover, a 500-calorie (semi-starvation) diet is likely to result in loss of protein from vital organs, and HCG can cause other adverse effects. Gabe Mirkin, M.D., has noted:

At one time, HCG was the most widespread obesity medication administered in the United States. Some doctors liked it because it assured them of a steady clientele. Patients had to come in once a week for an injection [14].

    Government Regulation
In 1976, the FTC ordered the Simeon Management Corporation, Simeon Weight Clinics Foundation, Bariatrics Management Corporation, C.M. Norcal, Inc., and HCG Weight Clinics Foundation and their officers to stop claiming that their HCG-based programs were safe, effective, and/or approved by the FDA for weight-control. Although the order did not stop the clinics from using HCG, it required that patients who contract for the treatment be informed in writing that:

THESE WEIGHT REDUCTION TREATMENTS INCLUDE THE INJECTION OF HCG, A DRUG WHICH HAS NOT BEEN APPROVED BY THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION AS SAFE AND EFFECTIVE IN THE TREATMENT OF OBSITY OR WEIGHT CONTROL. THERE IS NO SUBSTANTIAL EVIDENCE THAT HCG INCEASES WEIGHT LOSS BEYOND THAT RESULTING FROM CALORIC RESTRICTION, THAT IT CAUSES A MORE ATTRACTIVE OR "NORMAL" DISTRIBUTION OF FAT, OR THAT IT DECREASES THE HUNGER AND DISCOMFORT ASSOCIATED WITH CALORIE-RESTRICTIVE DIETS [15].

Since 1975, the FDA has required labeling and advertising of HCG to state:

HCG has not been demonstrated to be effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity. There is no substantial evidence that it increases weight loss beyond that resulting from caloric restriction, that it causes a more attractive or "normal" distribution of fat, or that it decreases the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restricted diets.

    Promotion By Kevin Trudeau
Negative studies and government action reduced the use of HGC injections for weight control close to zero. However, their promotion by infomercial king Kevin Trudeau may cause their use to increase. His 2007 book, The Weight Loss Cure They Don't Want You to Know About, claims that "an absolute cure for obesity was discovered almost fifty years ago" but was "suppressed" by the AMA, the FDA, and "other medical establishments throughout the world." Trudeau further claims that until now, "this miracle weight loss breakthrough has been hidden from the public so that drug companies can make billions of dollars selling their expensive drug treatments and surgical procedures for obesity." The alleged cure consists of HCG injections plus 50 to 60 required and recommended do's and don'ts [16].

In September 2007, the FTC charged Kevin Trudeau with violating a court order by misrepresenting the contents of the book. In infomercials, Trudeau falsely claimed that the book's weight-loss plan is easy to do, can be done at home, and ultimately allows readers to eat whatever they want. Previous FTC action had led to a court order banning from using infomercials to sell any product, service, or program except for books and other publications The order specified that he not misrepresent the content of the books. The FTC is now charging that he violated that narrow exemption [17].

You must eat!!!!!!!! Pills and injections are horrible!!! The best way to lose weight is to earn it and you'll feel so much better when you reach your goals. Who all is with me?

Two things crossed my mind when I read HCG injections and losing weight. First is that, for women, how could messing with your hormones and making your body think it is pregnant be good for you? Second is, I think being pregnant was one of the leading causes to me being overweight now....how could taking hcg shots make sense? Hmmmm, just doesn't seem like a good choice. Although I suppose if it stops your period...that would be a nice side effect! lol Plus you hear all sorts of things about hormone replacement being a possible cause for breast cancer. If I were you, I would steer clear of this one. Sounds way too dangerous on so many levels.

I do not believe in artificial hormones...........

I would never do this and I know a lot of people that are doing it, messing with Nature is going to be bad for the body in the end.

I would suggest staying away from hormones unless absolutely necessary. I switched BC and my hair started to break off after a month because it messed with my body chemistry. :noway: I can't imagine the side effects from these things.

I did this diet and let me tell you - it makes you miserable physically AND miserable to be around! I am a dance/fitness instructor and had absolutely NO energy to teach! 500 Calories is VERY unhealthy and when I consulted my Doctor she advised me to stop immediately!

You eat mostly proteins and vegetables but the vegetables are limited. Your carb consumption is almost zero - even healthy carbs.

I lost 10lbs in 1 week (which was exciting yes) BUT I gained it all back in the 3rd week of the diet. The person consulting with me said it was 'normal' and that it would all come off later... WRONG!

It is VERY expensive and a complete waste of time. If you're going to get slim - do it the healthy way. Quick fixes are not the answer. I'm working my butt off to lose baby weight - I gained far too much after having my son and am having the time of my life losing it... Feeling HUGE!
