Do you find that the fitter you get, the harder you have to work out to get the same calorie burn and your HR up? I'm working much harder now to try to get my HR up in the 85%-90%.

Don't forget that your maximum heart rate will change as you lose weight, so you may need to recalculate your MHR and zones periodically.0
