So yesterday I kind of pushed myself..and wound up burning around 1400 calories and eating around 1700.
This morning I woke up in such pain, and being female, it's my first day of the dreaded time of month, so I'm aching and bloating everywhere. I could only walk/jog on my treadmill to burn 300 calories...and lifted some weight for a short amount of time..

I ate kashi honey almond flaxseed cereal for breakfast with a piece of wheat bread with raspberry jam
Then for lunch I had a wheat tortilla with organic peanut butter, raspberry jam, and apple and banana slices.
For dinner I was invited out to eat..I had a smoothie, half a veggie burger and the killer part...fries with ketchup...
I know I slipped up today..

Will this ruin things and make me gain weight??

Its okay to slip up, there is always tomorrow. Some get discouraged from the second day mess up it turns into the third day mess up and so on.

Some people call them cheat days some call them treat days. But if you slip up one time now and then you will probably be ok. For me personally I seem to "slip up" a couple times a week and I still manage to lose weight. Sometimes it's ok just not all the time!!!
  • 1 day is not a problem. just get back out there the next day and do what you gotta do!

You burnt 1400 calories yet only ate 1700?? That would leave you with a net of only 300 calories? Which would be insanely unhealthy, so I hope that is not what you mean.

You should be alright. Your body has a way of balancing things out.

I slip up once a week, lol. It keeps me human. No, you will not gain your weight back. Just get back on track the next day and everything will be fine.

The daily number is a good thing to strive for but it's really the average over the week that will affect your real weight. Don't get on the scale for a few days as you could see some water weight from sodium on fries or other factors. Wait a week and get back on track and you'll be just fine.

I think you already know the answer before posting. NOBODY on here is going to say "Shame on you!" We've all been there. Of course it's okay? If YOU'RE okay with it. Do better tomorrow...or not...it's your life. Take control.

In a year of dieting I've slipped more times than I can count. You'll put on some water weight this week thanks to sore muscles and bad food so ignore the scale and get back on track. Your body will balanc things out.

If she burned 1400 in exercise then it's hard to eat that back in a single day. I do not believe this is unhealthy for a day. It's unlikely she will burn 1400 per day on a regular basis but to have a few days a week way below your net goal isn't a problem as long as you are eating over 1200 calories a day, 1700 would be a very good number based on my experience. I typically have a day or two a week like this and have been doing it over a year and have seen no ill effects. My doctor thinks it is great as I've shared my food/exercise logs and discussed this at length. Eating less than 1200 a day can be dangerous and you should try to eat back some if not all of your exercise calories to maintain weight loss over time but I wouldn't at all be concerned by the occasional day when you are way under. I often find that the next day I am hungry anyway and the body has a way of balancing it out.

First of all, you are way too hard on yourself. What is your daily allowance for your body type and what you want to lose in weight? Is it the 1700? The way you put it, it sounds like you worked out 1400 calories burned and you ate 1700...you still have 300 left and probably should have eaten more since you worked out. By no means are french fries bad....with a good serving of one serving size of course. No Ketchup too...but if you had it...count it all. Its when we binge and never stop... where its a problem.

Allow yourself the treat/cheat days occasionally....it won't kill your loss. Just pick yourself up and start a new day!
