Good news...bad news...

Well, I ended up having my gallbladder removed. Drats! My doctor took pictures, and it was nasty looking! But, he also discovered a nodule on my liver and decided to take a biopsy. After getting the results from that, and a battery of other tests, I was diagnosed with cirrhosis. And I have never drank (drunk?, drinked?) There is no way to reverse the damage that has been done, and there is no medication(s) that can be taken to prevent further damage - that is what I am told.
They also discovered that I had a metabolic disorder...probably from early childhood. This disorder causes obesity, insulin resistance, and cirrhosis - and I have all three! It causes you to gain weight around the belly - that's me.
There are certain foods/additives that my body cannot metabolize. I have to avoid the five 'white' foods - bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, and sugar. I also cannot eat anything out of a bag, box or can. Oh, and no thick-skinned fruits! What's left!!!? Fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat.
I changed my diet on Saturday (I received this news from my doctor on Friday) and have lost 6 pounds so far. I am amazed. I am not hungry! I do not miss/crave those wonderful carbs that I used to take such delight in!!
AND, I FEEL GREAT!!! I didn't realize how bad I really felt until I started feeling good.
I may need a liver transplant within the next 12 - 14 years (when I am 70), but if I follow this regimen faithfully, I could slow or even stem the progression of the disease.
So, I will....
1. take control of what I eat
2. exercise
3. be diligent and live!

I'm sorry to hear about your news. But I love your attitude. You are doing the right thing. Sometimes we need a physical wake up call to help motivate us. And now you know that there was an actual physical problem causing alot of your ailments. It is awesome that you are feeling better already. Keep it up and please let us know how you are doing0

You can do this!! I cut out all of the "bad" carbs about 5 years ago, and it has made such a big difference. I lost about 90 pounds in a year, and kept it off until last year, and I gained about 20lbs. So, I'm working out now, and really trying to eat healthy, and so far I've lost 13lbs. God bless, and Happy Thanksgiving!0
