That evil Thanksgiving dish...

As much as some of us are dreading Thanksgiving dinner because of all the yummy dishes that will be shoved in your face and as much as most of us are committed to controlling our portions tomorrow and staying away from certain dishes....

What is that one dish that you just KNOW you CAN NOT and WILL NOT stay away from?? I mean come on, Thanksgiving is only once a year and family members are busting out their specialty dishes that you only see once a year right?

My evil dish is not a dish per say but it is my moms GRAVY!!!! OMG....her gravy is sooooooo yummy...it just makes me want to slap her! 3 times!! lol

If you make the recipe on the Libby's can, use fat free evap milk and make it without the crust, it's only 140 calories (and that's with a serving or 2 of light cool whip). I don't mind not having the crust. I like the inside better anyway.

luckily for me, its only gonna be me, my 2 kids & my boyfriend.. Were making a turkey, squash & mashed potatoes.. & an apple pie.. So even though I may eat like its Thanksgiving, its really just an "extra huge" regular meal.. hopefully.. cause I don't intend on making more deserts,... Christmas will be the killer, cause i'm baking my gifts this year..

For me it is stuffing and gravy. Gravy is just basically FAT with CARBS (flour, corn starch) added. What is up with that? But it is soooooo good. I have been exercising extra all week. I am not going to deprive myself tomorrow, within reason!

My wife's apple pie! At least she now makes it with splenda instead of sugar. Originally done that way for our diabetic daughter-in-law but it is still so good she doesn't make it any other way anymore.

Sparkling apple cider... I'm going to have a hard time having just 1 glass. The rest of the dinner, I'm not worried about. Okay, except for, maybe, the rolls. I asked my friend to bring sweet Hawaiian rolls.

Buttery mashed potatoes with gravy. Very evil. I plan on running 3 miles as soon as I wake up. That's to account for any small temptations tomorrow.

Before I spout off too hard, let me qualify this statement. I will (mostly) keep track, and I will use the time off to exercise like a beast. That said:

Several days this week I will eat maintenance calories, and that one day I may eat maintenance plus 1000 calories. Over the week, by the time the leftovers are getting thin, I will probably eat maintenance plus 3500 calories - which is an awful awful lot of food. :-)

I will therefore gain 1 pound, and I do not care. It's one week, and one pound, and It'll be gone by December 15th. In the meantime I will enjoy the holiday with my family, and I will eat and drink and I will be very merry.

<<Oh yeah, my one weakness. I have many, 'cause I have a horrible sweet tooth. But the biggest is this stuff called "Poppycock - Cashew lover's something or other". Wow,,, that stuff is like crack. I can't walk out of the kitchen without a handful. We usually don't have it in the house, but my wife picked up a big can @ Sam's last week. It's almost gone.>>

It's not Thanksgiving here either, but on Thanksgiving I was not able to say no to the Buttery mashed potatoes with gravy either, or my Grandma's Cheesecake (Luckily it's the Weight Watchers recipe!)
Enjoy your Turkey day South of the border

I have to have my jellied cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving. Like CasperO, I'm not gonna worry about calories though until after the leftovers are all gone. Then I'll get back on track until Christmas.

Thankfully, I am hosting this year, so I get to decide what goes on the table. I'm not making my biggest weaknesses (fried okra & twice baked potatoes) and I don't like turkey, or pie of any kind. I'll be having green beans, a little ham and 1 roll and that'll be it for me. Already entered my food and everything.

However, I DO plan on indulging in a little sparkling apple cider!

How about.....all of it!!! I love mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, sweet potato casserole, hashbrown casserole, mac and cheese, pecan pie....I could go on and on. I will just have tiny portions of all of it, and I'm thinking I'll go over by about 500 for the day (at least). Then the next day my mom's making fried chicken instead of turkey...wahhhh

My weaknesses at Thanksgiving are a little bit of everything. GRRR.

Open faced turkey sandwich covered in gravy, mashed potatoes and more gravy, corn casserole, broccoli/cheese/ritz cracker casserole, and chocolate pecan pie.

It is so fun to see what everyone else has for Thanksgiving dinner. Like Okra and collard greens. I love collard greens, but have never had okra. And cornbread, YUM......

Everyone have a very happy thanksgiving. Everyone is doing great, so don't stress about one day. Just get in an extra workout or two somewhere and ENJOY! :drinker:

I made sweet potato pie, and it's really not that bad. I cube the taters and simmer in a saucepan with a little butter 'til they're mush, then add cinnamon, nutmeg, a little 2% milk and 1/2 cup of sugar. Then pour it into a crust and bake,,,

So, each slice is sweet potato, and crust, and 1/16th of a cup of sugar, and that aint bad. Worst part is the crust.
