NSV that shouldn't be an NSV!!

Today I overate, i had around five oatmeal and choc chip cookies!! To anyone else that would not be an NSV, but to me it is such a proud moment! It is the first time that i've gone over my calorie goal and eaten rubbish and not gone into full "binge mode." My binges can be up 7000 calories and 30-40 chocolate bars or cookies. They come on when i feel I've eaten rubbish "so i might as well keep going for the day" and then i cant stop. Today i had loads of cookie mix then one then two then three cookies. But then I stopped!! After that i had some cheese, dates, oatcakes and yohgurt for dinner but I felt full and stopped eating, that is the first time in a long time i have been able to do that! Although I shouldnt be happy as I've had an unhealthy day, I am so so proud as my binge s are 1000X worse than that! :) My eating habits are changing!

  • That is a great NSV!!!
When I joined MFP I read a motivational post that I loved.

"Just because you fall down a few steps does not mean you should throw yourself down the rest of the staircase!"

Good for you for breaking your old habits!

Great job! Proves that you are on the right track and have really changed for the better. I have days where nothing satisfies me and eat garbage and feel guilty, but get back on track the next day.

I totally get what you're saying. Great job!!!

Today will be a test for me. I have given myself permission to have a little potato salad, a little baked beans, a little of whatever else looks good. BUT, I am taking my own turkey burger (no bun) and some cherries. I will take water and ONE Bud 55 Select (almost like drinking water - LOL).

I will not allow myself any of the sweets. That is my trigger food, and one I'm not quite ready to face yet. However, a small NSV of my own...I made brownies for the party this morning, and did not so much as lick a finger. :)

I also made a taco dip and used very lean meat, low sodium tomato sauce and taco seasoning, and reduced fat sour cream, cream cheese, and shredded Mexican cheese. I will allow myself 6 tortilla chips with a bit of the dip. I'm guessing nobody else will even notice it's a little bit healthier. :)

I'm making Grandma's baked beans too. That smell brings back powerful memories of Grandma's kitchen and all the wonderful things there...but I will be strong! I'll have one spoonful at the party.

Thank you for helping to inspire me, and give me the strength to get through the day.

I think the most important NSV's are conquering the mental issues that we all have that gets in the way of us feeling as strong and as beautiful as we are! Good for you!

sometimes, it's only a bite that controls the binge.....have a taste of it and then, be done with it!!!

That is an amazing achievement! Well done!

I have been a binge eater for about 10 years.. probably more... and it's still amazing to me that in just the past 6/7 months or so I have got over this bad habit and haven't binged. Keep at it, It's nice to feel in control!
  • This is a great NSV. Kudos to you for being able to stop. I had suffered from binge eating for past 16 years. I am able to control and keep it very minimum. I am very hopeful that I could stop it altogether.

Keep it up and in no time, you will be out of it.

    Love this NSV.

I think that most of us are on here because we are striving to honestly assess our eating and exercise habits and find some kind of balance. That is the only way that we can ever get our sanity back when it comes to our relationship to food, etc...stop linking it to emotions like shame, guilt, and self-loathing that lead to binging. A more puritanical and perfectionist all-or-nothing approach might actually be what brought on many of our binging habits in the first place.

I, myself, had a big no-no food today—funnel cake—but am proud to say that I made sure I split it with friends this time. Yeah, it was unhealthy, but whatever. I came home, logged the dirty deed, laughed about it, made sure I ate something healthy, and then got on with my life.

Here's to all of us forgiving ourselves so that we can get on with our lives!!!

That is a HUGE NSV! Congratulations! It shows that you have made a shift in awareness and thinking, not just a change in habits. Bravo! :flowerforyou:
