So that is about 38km with about 3000m of climb??

I am doing the Seven Sevens in the Mournes on 4 August - it's 29km and 2500m climb and that will take me 8-9 hours solid. You can add another 2-3 on top of that plus all the driving.

I think the stop/start nature of it as you have to get from one to the other will be awkward to train for. Depends of course on what sort of shape are you in at the moment.

    Well done you!! :)

I am doing the Yorkshire three peak challenge this weekend and although it's not as demanding as the national three peaks, i'm terrified lol. Apparantly it's going to take me about 12 hours of hiking to complete :noway:

I'm going to start training to do the national one next year too.

Well good luck with the training. I'm sure you'll be fine :-)

Actually I found the Yorkshire Three peaks easier too, providing its a nice day and you eat well you can do it in 10 hours. that gives you 2 hours for stops and breaks and make sure you have an ice cream before the second peak

It might be a little boggie in the valley after the first decent so tread careful, and try not to use to much energy take your time though it look and choose a easy path, and don't worry you will catch up any time loss.

I led a team from work and stayed with the slow walkers for safety, the last person got to the final check point before the last climb and blisters stopped her. I still had time to walk and complete it.

When you see the last climb from a distance it looks a killer but by the time you get to the bottom its a short tough climb and your done because its down hill all the way back to the cafe.

The National 3 peaks is a tough cookie because of the lack of rest, although you try to sleep while travelling between the peaks its so hard to get any quality time. We did Snowdon first and didnt sleep a wink to Scafell far to excited, but in my opinion Scafell is by far the hardest climb the rocks under foot seem rounded and loose okay going up but coming down be careful I'd advise two hill walking sticks.

Ben Nevis looks soooooo scary at the bottom, when you look up and see people the size of a full stop on a piece of paper you think goodness me I have to go up there. However when you get going its not long before you break its back, What you must do if its a nice day is turn and face the way you have just come (now and again) and take in the views it will take your breath away.

Good luck to you both I wish I was coming along to both. Lee

Thankfully, we're both well into our fell walking so I do kind of know what i've left myself in for. I don't think we've done Scafell Pike but I know i've definitely done Skidaw.

I know it's going to be hard work but it wouldn't be a challenge if it was going to be easy!

We're just considering who our team will be a this stage as we need two volunteers to be our drivers/navigators.

Our training will involve group hikes for the first few months (as well as regular exercise alone 2-3 times during the week) and then we'll start hill climbing with our group as we get closer to the day. We're planning a few trips to the peak district to prepare us. We'd love to be able to do our climbing in Cumbria but it's too far for us unfortunately. We do, however, holiday in Cumbria every year - in fact our holidays are purely fell walking! Which is why we want to take on the 24 hour challenge as opposed to the 3 days.

Good luck to you all who are taking on this challenge or the Yorkshire thee peaks - we're all as mad as each other! :drinker:

I just completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge this Saturday just gone :drinker:

Wow! What an amazing and rewarding experience but OMG so so hard. Probably the hardest thing i have ever undertaken.

it was definately a mental challenge as well as a physical one.

Good luck to everyone taking on the challenge, Yorkshire or National.

I think i may have to do the National three peaks next year. I have the bug for it now
