Naughty at Night

Hey MFPers,

I have a little bit of trouble with my night snacking (did you think this was about something different? sicko!). I have only been on for about 15 days. I am doing well with the healthier eating and exercising by day but at night I want to:

a.)drink wine
b.)drink vodka
c.)eat chips
d.)eat chocolate
e.)any combination of the above

I haven't given into the temptation totally. I have met my calorie goals everyday and have been working out but I really want to go ape-s**t crazy after 8 pm.

Any tips or suggestions to battling this demon are welcome. Friend requests are being accepted :)

I have the same problem! There is actually a discussion thread about this going on in the 'emotional eating' group. You should join!

Ha, ha, ha ...... you make it sound like those are "bad" things :drinker:

As long as I exercise each day, there are a few extra calories to play around with. Then it's ok for me to have some chocolate at night ...... but now I eat only dark chocolate "bits & usually no more than one-half ounce. Same goes with having wine ...... as long as I have calories to spare, I'll have a wine spritzer, or alternate with a glass of water. And if I don't want wine, I'll have a diet tonic with a dribble of gin. I'm cautious with alcohol, though, cuz it makes me hungry ......

But no chips ....... I've learned through trial & error to stay away from that stuff LOL

Best of luck to you !

I've never been a night time snacker, but totally understand the wine! I would suggest adding the wine into your diary or saving some cals for late night treats if these are important to you. : )

I also find hot chocolate is great for minimising chocolate cravings and is always a lot less cals too... x

Options do amazing hoc chocs, totally in love with the mint on and for under 40 cals is a total winner!

I also have this problem. Maybe I think I need a reward for making it through the day, or something!
Anyways, I try to substitute something else for the chocolate and wine. Decaf tea is my usual go-to (strawberry is quite delicious!), but I have also gotten into a small amount of homemade salsa on a few whole wheat tortilla chips (measured out, of course) when I feel the need for bulk.
Don't give up, as the cravings will lessen over time. We just need to change our heads to change our bodies....

I am the same way with the sweets, well cookies and milk are my weakness. I switched my gym time from 5:AM to 8:PM because sitting in front of the TV at night made me want to just snack out of boredom. And now I get to sleep in in the mornings and don't want to eat after the gym so it works for me.

Got to say, I was dragged in by the title

I found having an ice-lolly and then brushing my teeth really helped. In fact, it still does (cept, now I've sneaked some ice-cream into the ice-lollies......ooops).

Best of luck overcoming these naughty night demons

The only thing that really works well for me is just not having junk in the house! If its there I want it at night. Exercising at night helps, but then I can't sleep. Now for the kids treat I take them to the shop once a week, instead of having lots of treats in the house. Truth is they don't need regular junk anyway! X

Whenever I get cravings I just go for a walk or I only allow myself to eat so much when I do eat. It is hard to get or stay fit but it is totally worth it. Don't give up!

Ha! I could almost have written this post myself...you sound so much like me with the night time chocolate \chips\ wine cravings. I'm learning to keep healty(ier) snacks on hand as stopping to snack completely is unrealistic.

    1. Jello Temptations Dark Chocolate sugarfree ( 60 cals)
    2. Popcorn snack packs ( 100 cals)
    3. Raisins ( 100 cal packs)
    4. Low fat plain yogurt or milk with Banana

    Hope this helps!
