Kinda Fishy

So I went to the gym today for a pre-eat fest workout. I could have sworn the sign I saw earlier said they were open 8-2. So I got there at 11:30 but at 12 the lady came around to everyone and pointed at her watch and said it was time to go. I was literally in the middle of running so I didn't get to cool down or stretch or anything, and she was turning off lights before I even had the treadmill turned off.

I know there are always some people there till the last minute, but I find it odd that she had to go around and tell everyone they were closing and everyone seemed kind of confused. No 15 minute announcement? Why didn't she tell me when I came in at 11:30 that they would be closing in half an hour? Then I went next door to CVS which took two minutes, and when I came out she was locking up and leaving too. Really, there was nothing to do once people left, no cleaning or anything at close?

It all seemed kind of fishy to me, I really think she took it upon herself to close early but I don't know how to ask someone what time that closed today without sounding weird.

OMG how annoying! I don't think I would have said anything either but I might have asked one of the other members that were working out, well at least you got a little workout in...

If you have a membership you have a right to demand proper service. If they are supposed to be open to a certain time, call, and ask why they weren't. They should at the very least respect and attempt to accommodate your dissatisfaction, and the lady who kicked everyone out may also be to blame, in which case you should let someone know.
  • I don't think you should be angry with her or complain to management. It is Thanksgiving and she is human just like the rest of us. Being human on Thanksgiving means you have cooking to do and family to spend time with showing you are thankful for them. She may have needed to leave early for a number of reasons. Just consider this her holiday pass and chalk it up as an opportunity to go home early yourself. There is always tomorrow and you can make up for the time you missed today then. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I get that it is Thanksgiving but if she did take it upon herself to close early, I don't think that's her call. I don't like that I have to work all day today, hell the stock market closes at 1:00pm but I still have to be here till 5 but I can't just decide to go home when I want. The gym isn't super close by to my house so I would have been very pissed if I had driven all the way there and they were closed. And even if I am mistaken and they were closing at noon, not telling people coming in close to close that they are closing soon, and turning off the lights before people can even turn off their machine is just plain rude in my opinion.
