Article - How to lose weight fast

Saw this article today, naturally when I saw the headline I was intrigued. I know fast weight loss isn't great cos it usually means fast weight gain afterwards, but I'm wondering what people think of some of the points made. It's pretty long so I'll just post the link.

Well it doesn't tell us anything we don't already know.

Low carb in particular starchy carbs
    High protein
    Cut out sugar
    Reduce excessive wheats
    HIIT
    Strength training

    Not rocket science?

Actually we all may not know everything he is telling us. He says: It is important to experiment and find out what works best for yourself.

Be aware that it can take a few days for your body to adapt to burning fat and protein instead of carbohydrates.

You might feel kind of strange for a few days (for me it takes three) but after that you will most likely feel better than ever.
Thank you for giving us the link! Everyone is not on the same knowledge level as others, so this kind of thing is helpful to those still learning. I appreciate the article and also appreciate people like you who feel the need to share it and not keep everthing to yourself, assuming we are all fully educated. Much love sis!

I agree whole heartly. But the key is you can go back to your old ways or you will gain the weight back. Before someone has a cow, yes it is a simple equation of calories in/calories out. But if your insulin is out of whack (and if you have a big belly it is) you'll get hungry when your body has plenty of calories.

    True this!
  • The food portion of this article is almost word for word from Mark's Daily Apple, a paleo eating blog. Mark does a better job though & offers even more info about macros, recipes, the science behind it etc. He just won't be advocating adding the high carb starches back in! LOL. HIIT is the bomb LOVE it. I-tunes has great Tabata music with the timed intervals built in. They only offer 20/10 splits but that is the best place to start anyway, Black Betty & Rise are my favorites.

Excellent Article and very interesting!:) I myself have seen some reflection of this myself since I have just started lowering my carbs, not by a whole lot, but I try to stay between 80 and 100 each day. But in the very short time I have been doing this, it seems to really help.

Here is my question though... it says and others say after you get to your goal weight, you can reintroduce more of the healthy carbs back up to 150 etc a day and it not cause you to gain the weight back. My question is how is that so? Seems to me that if you eliminate something and you lose, if you bring that back into the picture on a reg basis, your going to gain it back? Or is it a matter of...it took yrs to get that weight and once you get to where you need to be, its easier to maintain and not get that way again by just eating healthy from then on??

Its a bit hard for me to wrap my head around the whole grains or 100% whole wheat being bad for you unless it is solely the gluten in which I would agree with them on that but whole grains as a whole? Not so sure I can agree with that lol. Thanks for sharing!:)

  • I did paleo for a year & lost 25ish pounds. Then I added some grains back in & stopped losing. Been hovering around the same weight even gained a pound or 2, which hopefully is muscle from the lifting I've been doing, but the world didn't end. I didn't blow up like a balloon. I eat whole foods as close to their natural state as possible except for sprouted grain bread & wraps, oh & popcorn. I love popcorn! When I do a cut again next month I will stop eating the grains & take my carbs under 100/day & hopefully drop this last 10 #s. The key is to still hit your calorie goal with out the carbs. It's harder than it sounds.

Mark's Daily Apple is on my daily read list ... I love the way that guy is so open to changes and recognises that nothing is set in stone and we all have different needs.

His thoughts on exercise changed me forever, I no longer kill myself with 'Chronic cardio' ... Short sharp bursts are the way to go.

The first thing I noticed is that he has a lot of eggs in his diet. I thought that was bad for you?

Pretty much full of nonsense and some good fear mongering about gluten and sugar for good measure
The cause of weight gain isn’t that people are eating too much and exercising too little.

The first thing I noticed is that he has a lot of eggs in his diet. I thought that was bad for you?

    Why?

You think there is a link between consumption of dietary cholesterol and high cholesterol in the blood?

Confused about HDL, LDL, vLDL cholesterol? Maybe you weren't aware of the differences?

You maybe think that having 'high' total cholesterol is a good indicator for being prone to cardiovascular disease?

All understandable in the current fat-phobic climate but all wrong.

I eat 4 eggs a day, if I last until Monday it will be a result ;)

I guess because I don't know a lot about it and there's so many differing opinions.

BUT, the main reason is probably because there are 5 g of fat in an egg and I am only allowed 30 g a day. I love eggs, but 4 eggs a day leaves me with little room for anything else I like that contains fat such as nuts and cheese.

To the OP: loved this article, thank you for posting! Although it is full of information that I mostly already knew, it was great to read it all in one place, and with so many reliable references.

These exact methods have worked for me in my weight loss, and cutting out sugar and processed flour have made the difference.

If only our government agencies would listen and change their recommendations accordingly. If only they had the integrity to disentangle themselves from big-pharma and big-food industries that are killing us!

    I found this particularly interesting:

"The protein/fat combination of increases satiety hormones -- the ones that tell your brain you are full. The protein in eggs also causes your body to release the hormone glucagon, which encourages your body to release and use stored carbohydrates and fat."

Glad to know I can eat eggs! So if I'm going to eat 2-4 eggs every day, I guess it's ok to up my fat%?

Thanks! I also like having all that information in one article, and while I knew some of what it was saying there was also a lot of new information for me.
