Losing motivation

Hey everyone!

This is my first time posting on here but I really need some advice! I feel like I've been on an awful schedule this week and cannot find ANY motivation. I've gone from 180 to 163 pounds, but now teetering between 163-165 the past week. I did so well with eating and exercising. I did 30 DS and just started insanity, but man, insanity is kicking my *kitten*. I've taken extra rest days and I'm so worried about gaining weight back even though I've been staying on my 1,200 calories that I'm so stressed and giving myself migraines (which I get sick when I work out with them). I feel like I've been stuck in this cycle after having so much motivation for a good two months. After looking at my before and after pictures I'm realizing how big I was for my height (5'4)! I NEVER want to see myself at the weight I was. Another problem I've had is binging at night. What keeps you motivated and going when your body just wants to rest? How do you avoid late night eating? I'd appreciate anything you have to say! :) Also, I don't know how to friend people on here or anything but I would love support/ friends on here so send requests! I'd love to offer support to others!

Meghan

I read posts on mfp for motivation. Hanging out with other people who are exercising helps also. The late night snacking is tough. I drink a cup of low sodium chicken broth. This seems to trick my body my into thinking it has eaten something. You can do this. It is just you body trying to trick you into old habits that were much easier than the exercise. Stop stressing about gaining back. If you are exercising you may gain a little muscle but not a lot or as much as you have lost. Remember it is about your health and good habits. The rest will come. I know you can do this.

need to go day after day relentless... do not stop, if you food day is a bad one look at the positive side at midnight counter goes back to 0, if you keep try you won't fail.... in regards to the physical activity... don't set the bar too high, I've seen the insanity video and it's insane... some people like that and if you are one them go ahead.... I have a more sane approach, have a few routines in the gym that I follow and as I feel better I will increase the intensity...

First off, congrats on getting to were you are!!! That is a huge step!
As far as working out, sometimes you just need a break. If you are finding insanity too hard, stop for now, pick somethig else up and then try it later. You can always just go for a run/walk to get some exercise.

As far as late night munchies, these few things have helped me: gum (I love it, sugar free), munching on ice, or eating a salad or cumcumber with a small bit of ranch.

Keep up the great work! You CAN continue to do this!

Hi Meghan, Breathe, breathe deeply. You definitely sound worked up over this and you just need to take stock once again. You have done so well, be proud. You said any advice would be appreciated, so I'll tell you what I do often to stop eating in the evenings. I go to bed early : ) I read and I benefit from the extra rest. Getting up early instead of going to bed late has been a morale booster in other ways too. I don't know your circumstances, but for me, that works. Hang in there kid!
  • If you're having trouble with the amount of exercise you're doing and you don't have enough energy, maybe you should consider bumping your calories up. 1200 is very low and from experience, I can tell you that once you start a very low cal diet, you can't go off of it without gaining weight back. Your metabolism will slow down, and you'll feel tired, unmotivated and hungry if you continue to deprive your body of the precious nutrients it needs to support your workouts.

Don't stress. Any time you feel stress coming on, take a moment to clear your mind, focus on your breathing, and remind yourself that you're doing everything right as far as exercise and eating goes. Stressing over a couple of pounds is not going to do you any good, mentally or physically.

Always think in a forward direction.

Taking time to clear your mind could also help keep you from those late-night stress snacks. Instead of snacking, do something to distract yourself, or better yet, allow yourself to go to bed earlier (a good amount of sleep can help with weight-loss!).

    Simply put...MOTIVATION COMES FROM WITHIN.

If you want this.....you REALLY want this....THEN GET IT. If you dont, go open up a box of cookies.

EDIT: Do more research on the choices you have made. I will tell you that you are most likely Not doing it healthy.

First, congrats on your progress! Relax and dont stress so much, it won't disappear overnight. As a fellow migraine sufferer, I can say when you get one, DON'T "push through" that. There simply is no need to make yourself suffer like that. Rest, drink MORE water, wait for it to go away. If that means 8, 12 or 24 hours, so be it. Mine can last 3 days and life goes on but I'm not going to punish myself needlessly. This has to become a sustainable lifestyle change for it to work long term. We all can't do insanity every day. :)
