Use body measurements instead of and in addition to the scale. Lots of time our bodies will hold onto water when we exercise which will show as a weight increase but our measurements and body fat %'s are getting smaller. Look for some NSV (non scale victories) too!

You said your body is changing. Forget the scale. I do weigh on mine, but that is not the sole source of information for my weightloss journey. I look at measurements, how clothing fits (a big one for me) and other NSVs like I ran further today than before etc.

If your body is changing, it is working, just keep working it.

We put to much importance on that number! If you can see a difference and you feel good, than who cares about a number!!

I haven't lost any weight in 6 weeks, but I have lost several inches around my waist and hips. I weigh once a week, but I also measure once a week as well. Keep it up... once you build up some more lean mass, your body will become more efficient!

I agree with others - when weight-lifting is part of your routine, the scale is less reliable for monitoring changes. Use body fat % measurements (most gyms will do them for you for free), measure waist/hips/whatever with tape measure, and go by how your clothes fit.

One pound of muscle is about 1/3 the *size* of one pound of fat.

If you can see the difference in the mirror and your measurements are going down then you are on the right track. It's just a matter of time 'till the scale reflects it...

I am exactly the same!! :( it's very frustrating!! It's been almost 4 weeks of low calories and upping my exercise - and the scales aren't moving. Which makes it hard to stay motivated.

Need to just stick to my tape measure and ignore the scales!

Muscle DOES NOT weigh more than fat. A pound is a pound is a pound.

YES! It's hard when we bust *kitten* and don't see ANY results but it really sounds like you've got results, just not the scale kind. :)

I'm in the same situation (and have weight to LOSE in a major way!) however - I feel better! My jeans aren't as tight and I will NOT give up! It will happen.
  • All depends on how long you've been doing it, and what exercises you've changed up. I started a boot camp a while back and lost NOTHING for over 2 months, and then I finally had a weight change... UP 2 LBS!! But it was muscle taking place of the fat because my measurements were still going down. I would suggest you try measuring yourself every week instead of weighing yourself for the first 3-4 months of a new plan. Don't give up!! Keep going and you'll see the changes happed!!

Sorry but I hate seeing the debate of a pound of fat vs. a pound of muscle. Yes, they weigh the same...but please follow up with a pound of fat takes up more space (pound of fat by volume is more than pound of muscle again by volume) than a pound of muscle. The saying is just a saying to simplify that concept.

I worked out for about 6 months before I really saw a change on the scale. I wished I had taken more measurements so I would have had more to show for it when I needed a pick me up. I have reach that stage now where I have more muscle vs. fat and I am seeing changes weekly. Stick to it, changes will come. If you have a gym ask a trainer for help it is worth the money.
