Best protein powder?

Just wondering which protein supplements folks have allegiance to, and why. What do you look for in a protein powder?

I'm all about taste. My favs are: Premier Nutrition, EAS CarbAdvantage, Optimum Nutrition and Pro Performance. First 2 you can get at Sam's Club the last two at GNC. All are very tasty, all are whey (EAS has some soy and ON has a casien formula too).
I can't make myself choke down the gross tasting ones anymore now that I have found some tasty ones. The above are like drinking milkshakes and all are low carb and all but EAS are 20+ grams of protein.0 -
I like Optimum Nutrition products.0

I like a good tasting protien shake.
I currently am drinking Total Soy from Sam's Club. I usually mix a serving of Vanilla and a serving of Chocolate.0 -
Im all about how delicious it is. Mine is Whey gourmet vanilla naturelle. It seriously tastes like candy. Sooooo good in smoothies. Or i'll make a "milkshake" with the vanilla bean powder, ice and almond milk.0

I have tried a few protein powders. I did not like the taste of any of it. It was disgusting! I have tried results and recovery and it has worked the best for me and tastes amazing! It tastes like orange creamsicle!0

I'm cheap, so I bought the generic chocolate whey powder at the grocery store. It's got 25g of protein and only 4g of carbs, tastes great.
A friend had casein protein and when I asked him about it said it was slower to release into the bloodstream so you feel full longer. I don't really have trouble with hunger so I'll stick with my whey.0 -
looking for a protein powder, so...bump.0

I've tried a lot of different protein powders and most are so chalky tasting or flavor is over bearing. The only one I have been able to drink consistently is the MOMs "Show me the whey" 18g per scoop and you can't even tell you are drinking protein!0

I like Optimum Nutrition products.
ON is good. yummy.
you're going to get a lot of different answers here. i like ON but prefer Dymatize ISO 100 because its an ISOLATE vs concentrate (mroe pure) but more $$... if you dont care about how pure the protein is then ON0 -
i wouldn't suggest protein powder I'm no physical trainer or expert but you can lose the weight just by eating healthy and exercise don't waste money on something that may not even work just a tip. There are lots of foods that you can eat that have tons of protein like grilled chicken and eggs although be careful both have chlosetrol and should be consumed in moderation.0

bump for later0

For everyone complaining about disgusting protein shakes, try buying the unflavoured version and then adding a couple scoops of hot chocolate/nesquik.0
-
I've always hated protein powders until I found Dymatize Elite...its just flat out delicious and all of my friends agree My favorite is the gourmet vanilla!! It's literally the only thing that has gotten me to stop eating ice cream haha0
-
I use Promasil. It has zero carbs, 20 g's of Protein and only 90 cals per scoop. A little bit of sodium and cholesterol but nothing too high. I'd vouch for it, if you are looking for weight-loss and still trying to get a good source of protein from a powder0

I love the vanilla whey protein from Costco, it says it is from the makers of Muscle Milk® . I think it is called Protein Plus Powder. 27 grams of protein, 130 cals, and 100% delicious!!0

Whey too many to mention....(get it)
Anywhey, (oops) here are some that I enjoy for flavor...
as mentioned any Optimum Nutrition product is great
Gaspari is another company that rolls out a good product and tasty.
I have recently been getting hooked on 1st Phorm products, their phomula 1 protein powder is the best I have ever tasted, no joke! There is a cherry-lime and watermelon, both make me want to make protein shakes all day.0 -
NNW 100% Healthy Whey is my go-to. It's delicious, has a good amino acid profile and 22g of protein per 28g of powder, and is sweetened with stevia instead of Splenda or whatever else. Plus it's usually considerably cheaper than any other brand, and I can only find it at the most overpriced grocery store in town.
Only issue I've had with it thus far is the scoop. The nutrition label says 1 serving is "28.4g (1 level scoop)". Well, I finally decided to weigh a level scoop a couple of days ago. It's 47g, give or take. There's a line about 2/3 up the scoop, where the handle is, but it's not graduated or anything. However, it looks like that line is pretty much where you hit 28g of powder. I went back and readjusted my logs accordingly and thought to myself, "Well gee, that's why I thought I had a crapload of protein today but couldn't figure out why my logs said I didn't have enough!" This morning I mixed a shake with a "serving" (well, 2, in 16 oz of skim milk - it gets me through the first few hours of my workday) and it was shockingly thin in texture, but that's because I'd been drinking the equivalent of 3.5 scoops in my 2 cups of milk for the last couple of months! Still tasted good, though. I add peppermint stevia drops to the chocolate powder sometimes, and Vietnamese cinnamon & a packet of instant coffee to the vanilla.0 -
Bump
Looking for better
I use Body Fortress - Super Advanced Whey Protein Vanilla...don't care for the taste.0 -
I like Isopure Zero Carb Whey Protein. I generally look for the protein to calorie ratio when buying these products... plus it tastes great!0
-
I like Optimum Nutrition, hydrowhey and hydrobuilder. Good supply of protein, and BCAAs. Also, they mix better than any other I've had, no blender bottle necessary, and taste great.0

can't speak for everyone, but i'm looking to up my protein intake while keeping my cals within my budget. for me the protein is for muscle building, not weight loss.0 -

(puts on name tag with only first name) Hello, my name is Michael and I am a Gaspari Myofusion Milk Chocolate addict.0

Ok so second question piggy-backing on original OP. I use CVS whey protein powder. It's like that drug stores generic version of protein powder. It's not too bad. I wouldn't say it's delicious but I don't have to choke it down either. It's pretty middle of the road, taste wise. I think the bag makes between 16-20 servings. BUT, it's only 14 bucks. (taste for me is pretty important too but I have to weigh [whey...lol] against cost).
Question, for all of you raving about the taste of your particular brand:
How expensive is it?
I hate to sound like a cheap skate but some of these powders are just way outside my food budget.0 -
I buy Myofusion in 10 lb bags (I warned you about my addiction LOL!) It's about $80 shipped and about 145 servings at 1 scoop. Very inexpensive. But what you realy want to look at is the nutritional contents. eg, Grams of protien per serving, grams of carbs and fats, amino acid profile, bcaa content. Quality and nutrition are key and no amount of cost savings makes up for a lack of them.0

3.5 lb of Hydrowhey is about $60 at Bodybuilding.com. Considering the quality compared to others I've had, worth every penny.
Hydrobuilder is about the same, $1.40 per serving.
Keep in mind some of your cheaper proteins have few servings because serving size might be two heaping scoops of powder.0 -

I totally get ya, guy....agree 100%. 24g protein, 4g carbs, 1 scoop is a serving size...not sure of the other stuff you mentioned. Quoting you AND Chris3.5 lb of Hydrowhey is about $60 at Bodybuilding.com. Considering the quality compared to others I've had, worth every penny.

Excellent point, Chris. But I also have to keep in mind....you can either afford it or you can't, regardless of quality. Totally appreciate the info gentlemen, and anyone else want to chime in on the cost of their brand greatly appreciated. Maybe I can find a better tasting one I can also afford. Although, rereading what both of you just wrote, those prices aren't too bad.0
