HRM vs. FitBit

I've just read up on the FitBit that everyone on here seems to be raving about, and I decided to get it tomorrow... but then I read up on the Heart Rate Moniters and people said that FitBit is more for walking people and HRM is better to track calories on your workout? Is this right? How did you decided which one to get? I'm confused.

    I have BOTH! :bigsmile: Different uses for each but they work great together! FitBit for everyday and walking/running (and sleep tracking) - HRM for other less step focused exercises.

    The HRM is more accurate for counting burns for a wider variety of exercises than the FitBit. However, the FitBit is much easier to keep on at all times. It's major limitation is that in only really measures walking, running and stair climbing. I'd start with the FitBit since you can keep it on all the time and it updates itself to your computer easily and seamlessly. As you get more involved/interested you might want to invest in an HRM.

    They are completely different things, and not comparable really.

    Fitbit is a daily step counter which will calculate burn too. Good for people starting out on lifestyle change I guess.

    HRM does not accurately record all day but does during cardio activity.

    I also concur with the both sentiment, and the sentiment that it depends on what your main activity is going to be. If it's a lot of walking/running, stair climbing and the like, go with the FitBit first. If you're planning on doing a lot of anything else, go with the HRM.

    I am doing the 30 Day Shred by Jillian Micheals so I guess a HRM is what I'm after. When I'm done this workout I will be starting another one as well..

    If you want something to estimate your calorie burn for the other 23 hours a day (or all 24 if you mostly walk, run, dance, do aerobics, etc.), buy the Fitbit. If you want to know what you burn during your resistance training or cycling, get a HRM. :smile:
