P90X How many calories burned?

Does anyone know how many calories (estimated) are burned by each of the P90X DVDs? I can't find in the database.

  • I'd like to know that too. Also how long are the typical workouts?

It depends on your weight, fitness level, and how heavy you're lifting during the strength training. I wear a heart rate monitor to get a more accurate result and I typically burn 250-400 calories during the various strength training and 500-700 on the cardio.

p90xcalories.com is where you can use a calculator to figure out how many you will burn. And each work out is approx an hour.

You can't use an HRM for strength training. It's results will be completely wrong.

I use the link below to be on the safe side and avoid over estimating, I normally don't factor in the warm up exercises which normally run 5-8 minutes at the start and 5 or so in the end.

I thought HRMs for circuit resistance training - like P90x - are relatively accurate? Not doubting you, just what I had heard.

I totally agree that my HRM overestimates my calories burned during some of the P90x resistance workouts. I typically don't eat back all of my exercise calories to be safe.

HRMs are programmed for constant movement. If there are rest periods, it doesn't calculate correctly. Running is constant, and an HRM is great for that. It has to do with the algorithm programmed into the HRM. When you lift, you work then stop then work then stop. That activity confuses the HRM.

I don't know how accurate this calculator is, but this is the only place I have found Kenpo and Plyometrics mentioned as workouts.

If you don't have a HR monitor, pause every now and then and check your pulse then write it down. Keep in mind your intensity level. You can find numerous calculators online that can give you a good ESTIMATE of what you burned based on your height, weight, avg HR, intensity, and more. But remember it is just an estimate. I love P90X, some of the workouts I have blasted 500-620 calories, and some I am more in the 250 range. It all just depends on a ton of factors. I plan on investing in a really good HR monitor soon so I can get an even better estimate. Also, the estimates that I get online from tracking my HR and stuff I usually log into my exercise diary as less, just in case. :)
