I think I need to eat more.

I have yet to reach my full calorie intake. Today, I had about 700 calories and that was it. I also do the 30 day shred and I'm very active throughout the day. I feel pretty good and I'm drinking lots of water. This doesn't leak over into the 'unhealthy way' does it?

You need to eat more and better foods. Any weight loss you experience the way you are currently eating will most likely be unsustainable and unhealthy

Better foods? I'm pretty much on an all veggie, fruit, and protein diet. How do I get better than that?

700 calories is pretty low. With numbers this low, it is quite possible you are low in protein, which tends to be calorie dense. I would eat at least 1200 calories most days. Best wishes on your success.
  • I think you do need to eat more. Make sure you're eating a balanced diet, it's important to eat nutritious food when you're working on your weight. Eat protein like chicken, fish and eggs everyday. Eat a lot of fruit and vegetables, get your fibre in and make sure you're drinking water too...but yeah, definitely eat more!

Are you still getting dizzy from 30 DS? 700 calories is a very small amount. For me, that is not sustainable and my performance would suffer on such a low cal diet. If you think you are eating too little, then try eating more for a few days. I just bumped a post that has 35 low calorie lunches. My diary is open and while I'm not perfect, I am eating a lot more than you do so you are welcome to friend me and use my entries for ideas if it helps.
  • Thanks for the tips! And I am a vegetarian, so I get my protein from beans and peanut butter mostly.

And no, I'm not still getting dizzy. Those recipes are great and I've already copied and pasted them! Thank you guys and I'll try to eat more.

I can tell you what I dealt with, if it helps.

I was eating 1,200 calories and not losing weight. Then I learned a little more. I calculated my bmr, which you can do in the tools section above. This is what your body needs to maintain itself if you were to lay in bed all day. My current bmr is 1,400.

Then I calculated my tdee. This is what your body needs on a normal average day to maintain. Mine is 2,028.

I began eating at least my bmr, but less than my tdee. I was also doing Jillian. I lost 6 inches off my waist, started losing weight, and saw very nice increases in my strength.

Now I'm close to goal and have changed that all around a bit. But I still believe you shouldn't eat less than your bmr, especially doing something like 30 day shred. If you browse the forums you'll find that a lot of people don't lose a lot of weight doing it... But they lose inches, pants sizes, etc. To build muscle you need to feed it. Eating too little will cause you to metabolize muscle instead. I think you'll see much better improvements if you increase your calories. I know it worked quite well for me.
  • Sorry, i totally didn't even think about you being a vegetarian! :blushing:
Don't eat chicken then, haha.

You need way more protein as well as calories. If you're vegetarian try eating some eggs, greek yogurt, cottage cheese and quinoa. You could also make smoothies with protein powder.

Try to incorporate monounsaturated fats -- nuts, avocado, olive oil, etc.

How about smoothies? You can make great ones with all fruit.

With just beans and peanut butter you're not getting all the amino acids you need.. try adding some more of these suggested high protein items into your diet!

You can get better then what you are eating. I looked at your diary, one day you had french fries, pizza and nuts. Thats it. Where are the fruit and veggies? Honestly, your diet is not good. There is very very little food, and what is there isn't the best choices. You do need to eat more, no one can live and be healthy on so little food, especially when its not really good, nutritionally dense food.

One day a third of your daily calories came from ice cream - that can't be good can it?

Here's what I think: You need to eat more. You need to fuel your body, which you're not.
Consider eating a hearty protein rich breakfast. (My current favorite is plain yogurt with peanut butter and chia seeds).
You won't be able to sustain at this level for long.

That' starving...if you don't eat you don't drop, at least you'll drop only the few muscles you have and not the fat !!
I eat between 1500 and 2500 per day I workout 4-5 times per week per almost 2 hours I didn't low carbs that much even because otherwise I don't drop and I'm muscled, let's say very toned and I kept my feminine part I don't like body building the only weight I lift is that of my body, I already dropped15 pounds in 4 months I'm not in rush I have 12 more pounds and then is over, I eat also pizza once per week and I can say I miss nothing with the diet, sure I don't eat junky fooda like chips, milk chocolate or ice cream every day, but if I want something sweet I have it in the days I workout and I still drop, the key is exercising.......

  • Well, when I work out, I'm not hungry. I eat mostly fruits and veggies and I just don't get to log or finish logging on those days. I've learned to only eat when you're hungry, so if my stomach isn't growling, then I don't eat.

Aren't you concerned though that EVERYBODY says you need at least 1200 calories a day to stay healthy?
  • Yes. And I will try harder to eat more.
