We are having friends round for a takeaway tonight, a very rare treat for me, but i don't want to blow it! What are the most sensible options? I jnow chinese food has a lot of salt in it, and i'm anticipating a water weight gain, but still want to make the most sensible choices! x

I've noticed that some chinese places have incorporated a "low calorie" menu. It usually consists of chicken dishes that are not deep fried, white rice instead of fried rice and vegetable sides. Ask about it when you make your order.

Broccoli beef is a nice choice. Look for stir fries with out corn starch coatings.

I read Shrimp Gumbo is a good choice. 500 calories total.

Chicken and vegetables. Or Buddha's Delight which is a bunch of stir-fried veggies (but that isn't very satisfying!).. the other week I got chicken and hot peppers, which I thought was very good. Just try to stop eating once you feel full and leave most of the sauce in the container, don't get something deep fried, and you'll be all set.

They serve Gumbo in a Chinese restaurant? What is in it? All I can think of is Creole gumbo.
