Overthinking it.....

Anyone else do this? I have been trying to loose weight for 10 years now... I'm sick of it, why can't I just do it and move on already! First I try this diet and then I try that diet/way of "life". Then I try this exercise and then do that exercise. Cardio, weight lifting, eat protein before, after, during exercise.... wtf! Am I overthinking? Scared of success? I know only I can answer that....I think I need a therapist...lol, just curious if anyone else has been where I am and what possibly worked for you. Thanks for listening to my rant :)

The one thing you need to know, is if you eat below maintenance, you WILL lose weight.

Keep it simple to start - just count calories and do some exercise

I started doing that and not bothering about balancing or quality of food and have been losing 2 per week .Its only after 2 months that I started bothering about protein/carbs/fats limits and even no I don't obsess about it.Now I'm trying to keep my sugar intake down and my fiber up

Yes, you are overthinking it! And the more time that you spend reading these forums the more confusing it gets! That's the case for me anyway.

I agree with Bob314159. Start with what you know works -- less in than out, and you can evolve your diet and exercise into what works for you as you go. Remember it is a journey with twist and turns and trial and error. Set back and enjoy the ride!

Is it because you dont know how food works?
I find that people who have a hard time dieting dont know the first thing about the physiology of it.

    This will get you started.

that's what i was thinking. i am trying to track calories and stuff but it seems like it doesn't work for me. know your body. i found that, i can eat whatever the f*** i want but as long as i don't stuff myself i will lose weight. i don't know how but it works for me.
for example, one day i eat within my calories and all healthy foods, i eat on schedule and so on, but if i am constantly full it won't get me anywhere.
the other day i eat whatever i want but just when i am hungry and not until i am completely full, i will lose weight (it doesn't make much sense, and i'm not saying that you shouldn't eat healthy)
it's important to find what works for you.

I think this is really good advice.

Set yourself up with a moderate calorie deficit (in other words, don't try to lose 2 pounds a week if you don't have a lot to lose), get in some exercise.

Keep on doing it! This is the most important thing, just about anything works if you keep it up for long enough, but I think most people give up because they make it too complicated (i.e. too many rules) and too extreme (ie. too low a calorie intake and too much exercise).

I don't know if you're over-thinking it, but I know I am! Sometimes I just feel RIDICULOUS for spending this much time and energy on... what I eat. There's a lot more to life, y'know?

We all do it, overthink, overdo, whatever you want to call it. You've started. Be kind to yourself. You CAN do it.

I've never successfully lost any noticeable weight (that didn't return right away) without upping my exercise.

Believe me, I tried a bunch of diets...low-carb, vegan, etc...the list goes on.

The worst diet was where I started out drinking nothing but leek soup for three days.

Then I started riding my bike to work, cleaned up my diet, and the pounds came off without really trying.

    Good luck!

Calorie deficit, decent protein intake, lift some weights, do some cardio.

    Simple.

You are definitely overthinking it! Just follow MFP settings, get moving and you will be successful. Keep in mind that a lot of stuff on this forum (that seem to make it complicated) are for people that are done losing and are working on getting cut. My ratio is always off, I eat healthy food most of the time but enjoy a burger and potato chips on occasion. I just keep my calories within what MFP set and if I go over occasionally don't worry too much about it. You can do it!! :flowerforyou:

What has worked for me so far is to track calories. Honestly, when you are tracking calories and staying within your calorie goal, you have no choice but to be low on carbs. It also really helped me to figure out what healthy portions are and to really take a good look at what I was eating.

Once you have mastered staying in your calorie goal and exercising then it would be a good time to pick apart your food intake and make sure you are getting enough fiber, etc. I haven't gotten to this point yet. I am still working on some goals like eating more veggies.

On a side note, I think most of us would benefit from a therapist! LOL
