6 small meals?

Ok I keep reading that we should eat 6 small meals a day to keep our metabolism going BUT do you eat if you're not hungry just because you THINK you're supposed to? Also, I don't eat dinner until almost 6:30. I don't want to eat a snack after that. Even though ohh I really DO want to! What to do?

Eating frequently does not increase metabolism. You do not need to eat 6 small meals per day. Let personal preference decide your eating frequency.

eat as often as you want.
make sure you creat a deficit in order to lse weight
I eat 2 meals per day: lunch and dinner, and then I snack in between (a lot when I'm bored)
if busy I will just have lunch and dinner0 -
Eat as many meals as you want during the day. Doesnt matter if its 8 or 1, just make sure you hit your calorie and macro goals0

I'm not 100% certain about my metabolism, but I fluctuate with my meals and snacks throughout the week. Sometimes I will have snacks in between, other times I just have 3 meals and that's it.
My TDEE is apparently only 1870 or something. I'm only 124lb and 5'6". I eat 2130 a day and even go over at times. I don't tend to gain any weight. So it might be because of my metabolism. 3 meals, 6 meals, 10 meals O.o Don't think it really matters.
If you are hungry then eat, if you're not, don't force yourself to eat another meal. I read this and it shows you what can affect metabolism:

I think it might be due to my muscle burning my calories. I have noticed my arms getting bigger, other parts of my body feel a hell of a lot harder when tensing whereas they weren't like that before. I can slightly see my abs at times, so if I keep it up, my body will do the extra work for me lol.0 -
I eat around 6 times a day but that is because I prefer to eat that way. I don't like the stuffed feeling that comes when I eat 3 square meals a day that is a lot of food and I get really sick feeling. So I space it out if make me feel better
As long as I'm eating the right foods and I am staying within my calorie range I'm set and you will be to.

I eat six times a day.
8 am Breakfast-
10 am snack,
12 lunch-
2 snack-
6-7 dinner-
8-9 snack
I dont eat if im not hungry though. This works for me, and keeps me from that "im starving feeling' and prevents over eating. Time dosent matter you can eat a little earlier or a little late for dinner, I just dont eat and then go to bed because it hurts my stomach lol. Its up to you. But i look forward to my snacks it helps me, and I feel better fueled and not so limited and restrained.so I divy up the 1500 calories however I like0 -
It's best to eat 4-6 meals/day, as opposed to 1-3. The reason for doing so is that you have a good, continuous amount of calories available to burn. Carbohydrates don't give us energy for very long (2 hours at most). Once you're out of energy, you body will be looking for more, and you'll lose energy because of it.
The other benefits are that your stomach will not get empty, and will also shrink, because you won't be stuffing it full every 6ish hours. You won't get hungry as quickly, or as often!
It's a lot easier to regular your food intake with multiple meals during the day. Your body will thank you!
Just make your snacks larger and your meals smaller. That's what I do (more fruit/nuts for snacks, no desserts, fewer fruit and veggies during meals).0 -

Me too
I started eating 6 small meals to boost my metabolism but have since learnt that is not the case; however I'm never more than a couple of hours from eating something and it works perfectly fo rme this way
Convenience and preferance rather than any metabolism issue though0 -
Thanks everyone. I guess even though I have lost 40 lbs I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. In fact, I know I haven't and I'm just feeling overwhelmed with info. Whatever you all are doing it's clearly working. I can see from your pics..you look great!!!0

You have lost 40lb - that's great, and you are obviously doing something right!
Eat whenever you want as long as it fits into your calorie and macros targets. There is no metabolic advantage to eating 1 x a day versus 10 x a day.0
