Which HRM do you recommend OTHER than a Polar one, that isn't too expensive, and that will track my calories used during HIIT?

Hi, sorry, this isn't really answering your question, but what's wrong with Polar? I got 2 Polars off eBay for reasonable prices, and they work great.

I use the garmin heart rate monitor. It was 100.00 if I remember correctly. I definitely had to sit down with the manual to understand it all, but now it is really easy to use and track. I use it for HIIT and Walking/Running.

Never said anything was wrong with them. Was just curious as to which brand comes second to the Polar's, in your opinion.

Ah, got it - I did own a wrist-only HRM about 2 years ago, and it didn't work great. I'll try to track down the maker. Polar is the only other one that I've owned, but I have heard other good things about Garmin. But I've never owned one.

When I was HRM shopping, I read all the topics about them here, and then read all the reviews on various models on Amazon. Narrowed the field down to either a Polar or the New Balance N4. Searched for auctions for new items of each on eBay, and within a week I won an auction for the New Balance - $26. Brand new, works perfectly. You can get them at Target and other stores (about $70), or online. Chest strap & watch, allows you to enter your info (M/F, age, weight, height, activity level, etc), tracks calories burned, stores up to 9 workouts, shows max heart rate, average heart rate, etc.

I use Garmin with the Digifit App for the IPhone. I like it a lot because it gives you audio feedback, also it charts your workout which is great when doing a look back. One issue is the Digifit GPS signal is pretty weak if you also want to use it for outdoor training.

Honestly, there is no other brand better than/second best to Polar.

Since you are a male, you could try TImex but be warned the calorie burns tend to be a bit insane.
