Back Injury

Bad news from the doctor today. I have a fractured vertebra (L5 - transverse process) and degenerative disc disease (no disc between L4 & L5) for those that know what the heck that means. I've made great progress with my diet and just started weight training recently. The doctor scheduled me to start physical therapy on Wednesday and then perhaps surgery anyways. One thing he told me: No LIFTING and No RUNNING. What? No running? How can I train for a 5K run if I cannot run?
I hear water aerobics is good and I'll find out other things I can do to help my back.

Anyone had a similiar injury? Physical therapy for back injury? And what kind of exercises were you allowed to perform?

:explode:

My diet is going to have to be perfect now.

    :ohwell:

    enjoy your day
  • Maybe you should look into water rehabilitation training, I have heard that it creates less impact on the spine and yet gives good results. I missed the fact that you mentioned that in your post...

Sorry, with my father's back injury, he is VERY limited on what he can do other than PT 3x/wk right now. I wish I had more to offer for advice. He was allowed to be in the pool, but not in natural water at the risk of going too deep and the pressure of the water hurting it, so pools only (since they usually go at deepest 12'), he can still ride his road bike too. I wish you much luck and hope rehab will be swift and smooth for you!
