What is a burpee, and how do you do it?

Someone sent me a thirty day challenge and I was just wondering how to do a burpee?

    Also known as suicide jumps in the INsanity program. Start in the standing position, drop down to the push up position, quickly jump and bring both knees to your chest while keeping hands on the ground, shoot your legs back out behind you to return to the push up position and then jump back up off the ground and land in the standing position.

    If you like you can throw a push up in there for good measure. After about five or ten you will feel like you have to burp and after about thirty youll feel like something else is coming with the burp.

    Burpees are the devil of all exercises.. I just did some this morning and I hate them.

    Basically i start standing hands above my head. Squat down so my hands touch the ground and my knees are in my chest. Shoot my legs out behind me, jump them back in between my hands and stand up. Rinse and repeat for as many as you need to do.

    I did 2 sets of 15 and they about killed me :(

  • I really have to start doing these. They're great for just about your whole upper body, especially core. Ok for legs, too.

    This is the way I have been doing them. They suck but it is a great exercise. They just never seem to get any easier which is good I guess.

    Back in the old days when I was in school, we had to do this ^^ regularly in gym class. But they were called squat thrusts. They didn't seem like a big deal back then. I wonder if this 51 yo body could still do them. I will find out tonight. (uh oh, challenge!!)

    Usually don't watch videos like this because they make me cringe, but kudos to him!

    I still have issues with pushing my legs out on the way down. My knees just won't cooperate.
