Can the MFP Android application be bad for your marriage?

Why would she even care if there were links to dating sites, unless she was insecure and thought you would use them?? Seems kinda silly to me. IDC what kind of ads pop up, I I am interested I will check them out, but I have the app for my weight and tracking, the other stuff is just insignificant to me.
HOnestly, I have no issue with my finance seeing my phone, or vice versa. Trust is the key and shouldn't matter at all what ads are popping up??0 -
Try installing an app called "AdFree". No more ads in MFP, or most anywhere else.0

I havent seen any ads on my android MFP.
But even if I had...my husband certainly wouldnt care if they were racey or adult in nature. He certainly wouldnt accuse me of anything! More like would want to compare to see if they are any better then the ones he's seen!!!!
Hopefully there is no other trust issues in your marraige that would make your wife feel threatned by an ad. Unless there is some self esteem or jealousy issues, or if you have given her a reason to worry, otherwise I just dont understand why that would be an issue. Just MHO. :flowerforyou:0 -
Thank you for that bit of information...
Something to look at ...
But, of all the replies, I will be honest, at my age - the biggest temptation is "Papa John's Pizza for $10
A wise man once said - "The sex will wear off in time, but you ALWAYS BE HUNGRY!" - in my case, it may just be true
This is why she's upset. She thinks you are getting IT elsewhere (or are more interested in it elsewhere) than with her.
Trade Papa John for Little Missy.
Good luck!0 -

Do you need to "Root Your Phone" - for "AdFree" to work?0 -
Yep, I get those ads. Pretty sure everyone does. As someone who works in internet advertising, I hope I can shed a little light on the issue. Those types of ads (as well as those "belly-fat" types of ads) are very popular right now because they do bring in the money- they're "hot ticket" ads right now. Agencies pay a lot of money to have those ads plastered all over the internet world (cell phone ads are part of the "internet advertising" world. There are also advertisers who CAN target their ads to specific types of people (Males, people of certain age groups, people who recently Googled "wedding dresses" etc.) so it makes sense that men might get those ads a little more often than women.
Mobile advertising is also relatively new, and it's not as successful as non-mobile advertising- people are less likely to click on ads on their phone than on their computer. Because of this, "quality" advertisers are more likely to buy on non-mobile websites, which is why on MFP.com you don't see quite as many of those crappy ads as you do on phones. The lack of quality advertisers on phones means the crappy advertisers get all the inventory, so those ads show up more on phones.
The reason it costs to have ad-free mobile sites is because that cost needs to make up for the money the site would lose by losing their advertising. For some businesses, this might not be worth it- it depends on how much they depend on advertising for revenue, and free service sites likely depend heavily on ads.
In any case, I'm surprised your wife would be upset with you using MFP simply because of the ads. If she ever goes online, she must see those ads as well, both male and female-oriented. It's unavoidable. If you have a Pandora account, you'll get the ads there. Games? Same thing. Unless you avoid any and all internet communities, it's going to happen.
So that is why the ads appear as they do...the fact your wife is threatened by advertising is another issue that you guys probably should discuss.0 -
I am looking at the history of almost a year of customers asking for a paid "Ad-Free Version for the Android",
The ads that very disturbing for a health based application. Yes, I can overlook many junk mail ads, but this last week my wife noticed my phone with the banner below "Meet Women...type of dating service" , "Expand your possibilities" and "Maxim Girls" click here to view...
My wife was very offended, as I entered my calories for the day, and she saw these ads at bottom of my phone - I tried to explain that the MFP is a health application and not a porn application! (yeah- that really went well!)
Rooting my phone and changing to various other Android apps seems to be a lot of trouble, like many others who have complained and asked to pay $$$ for an AD-Free version for over a year, so what is really the issue here?
Do women get the same ads as I am getting? Or are these ads targeted to "Males"?
And I thought McDonald ads and Junk food Papa John's Pizza for $10 was already tempting enough :noway:
Are women aware of these type of ads on MFP Android? If they are, would wives want to have such ads on their husband's phones?
Since there is no "Ad-Free Paid Version for the Android"... It has been a year...
Any thoughts from MFP users???
why would your wife even care? It's an AD! If you had a dating APP on your phone, then you deserve ****.
SO happy I'm single with NO drama (at home)0 -
most of my ads are phone related (ringtones and that sort of thing)..... not for women.0
-
Just looked it up .. and yep .. and now I remember you saying you didn't want to root, so nevermind I guess.0

Why would u let ur wife see ur Ph?
^^^ listen to the man.....
You hide your phone from your wife? :smokin: Good luck with that! Women are pretty smart  Get on the bad side of your wife - way to risky for me, I rather fight a professional MMA fighter in a UFC ring and get my butt kicked
No way - Too old and too smart for that... Happy Wife = Happy (and safe) Life :flowerforyou:
^^ You're a smart man!0 -
Do you get the same kinds of ads on the site? As far as I know they're based on browsing history... I'm not sure about the android app.
This... Mine always has clothes or car seat covers... Because im constantly browsing the web for it.0 -
Boo on all the people commenting on your wife. She's your WIFE, enough said. Explain to her just how private the internet is, like Facebook...hahaha. All you have to do is tell her you aren't looking for other women, especially hot ones. She IS the hot one. That's one of the reasons why you married her I'm sorry you are getting annoying crap on your android. Keep doing your MFP logs and chats. I try to do MFP on my desktop and only see ads related to fitness, I'm a Fitness Professional who goes to NASM daily. I would be nuts if I got pizza ads! MFP is a fabulous tool for fitness and weight loss/weight gain, motivation and accountability. Good Luck!0

Good ole data aggregators. Like many have said, it's based on your browsing history and companies' profiles of you (gender, age, income, etc.)
Check out I Know Who You Are and I Saw What You Did by Lori Andrews. Scary stuff!0 -
I only get porn ads if I've been watching porn :drinker:0

Hello everyone!
I have a multitude of devices (iOS and Android), but recently the new Galaxy Note 2 had me leave (at least for now) iOS as my phone, and I am really enjoying the OS.
However, in my case, I don't care about the CONTENT of he ads, but that there are ads at all! I am more than happy to pay for apps - all of the apps for the most part on my Android device are paid. This is because, quite frankly, I just find the banner ads on the phone to be just plain downright distracting. I can't stand them. I would much rather pay $10 for the app, then have these ads.
And to the poster about rooting and the Ad blocking app - many folks just don't want to root their device. I jailbroke my iOS device time and time again only to reverse the process later because of potential security issues. I know that rooting for the most part is safe - however, I personally would also prefer not to root.
I will keep this app for now but I will continue to look for one that is at least as close to this (might not be as good, but at least close hopefully) that offers a paid option, and removes the ads...
I will say that I have been thoroughly enjoying all of the posts I have been reading so far, and that the comraderie and support here seems great.
I hope you all have a great rest-of-the-day,
Mike0 -
Thanks again everyone - it was nice chatting (albeit briefly) with you - but I am uninstalling this app today. I am going with the paid MyNetDiary Pro app, it has many of the same features and will still do what I need. However, I will keep my eyes peeled - and if they ever offer a free version of this app, I would probably try it again
Thanks again.

I have no idea what my ads are. I just log my calories and then click off of the thing. Its more of an on the go kind of thing. I think ads are targeted toward what your browsing history is. For instance, I do not get porn, but I get alot of electronic stuff, because that is what I am looking up and researching most of the time.0

i always hear that it's based on what you're searching online... good luck with that, dude!!
Yup. The internet is tricky. I get banner ads. For websites that I shop at or ads for local places when I map search. You can thank google0
