Okay, so I posted on here about a week or so ago moaning that although I was eating just 1200 calories (and exercising), I was barely losing anything. In fact the ONLY time I was losing was the week after my TOM, and even then it wasn't every month. I knew that my loss would slow down as I got nearer and nearer to my target, and I'm roughly 12lb away from that now. A few of you suggested that I was, in fact, eating too little, and there was little chance I would lose 2lb a week consistently, and that I should up my calories. Not by much, just up them a little.

I'll be honest, I was quite dubious to do that, after all, if I wasn't losing on 1200, any higher wouldn't do anything right? Or it might even make me gain. I did it anyway, and upped them to 1427 and BAM!, I was less hungry, less tired, and as of this morning I have lost another lb! Bearing in mind I have been at this for just a week.

AND, as of today, my BMI is officially in the good range. Okay, it's 24.9, but still!! :-D

So, THANK YOU MFP! :D Love you all xx

Stop being afraid of it. Try it. If it doesn't work try something else. I've been through similar experimentation - check my profile. And then check how much I eat nowadays (Monday's log is a typical day for me). I rediscovered my hip bones a few weeks ago!

Thanks everyone for the lovely replies!! :-) I've had a lot more energy to exercise for a little longer, so that's probably contributed to it. Happy girl today! Our bodies really are funny old things sandrajune, I completely agree! :-)

    xx
  • That's so awesome! I love hearing stories like this :) Dieting doesn't have to mean you're hungry all the time! Keep at it!

    this.

It's so odd when people are doing something that they admit isn't working but at the same time they are unprepared to try something different.......

Wow, that's awesome! Good for you!

It makes me wonder if I should up my calories too. The thing is, I'm not that consistent anyway, so I don't manage to eat 1200 calories all the time anyway. I haven't lost any weight in quite awhile though...

What calculation did you end up using to decide on how many calories you should eat now?

What I find has been working for me is shooting for 1500 cals. Some days I have much less, and some days much more (+- 300 cals or so), but overall it evens out. This works for me, I don't think I could shoot for a straight 1500 a day. I don't want to think that hard about it. I didn't loose though till I upped from 1200 to 1500. Good luck

How did you decide what to increase your calories to? Also, are you eating your exercise cals?

  • WOW Congratulations!!, I'm exactly the same, not sure how I can up my calories though, would a couple of glasses of wine help? Please?

Thanks for this, because I was having the same problem. Hit a plateau and not losing much and still feeling hungry, it was frustrating me. So starting yesterday I decided to up my calories a little and I am hoping that will work.

Congrats to you and hope you get to your goal soon :flowerforyou:

It's VERY scary! The concept seems so backwards when you repeat what has been hammered into your brain for years, "eat less, move more, eat less, move more". This is what we are used to, this becomes our life and changing your life is no less than terrifying! But I have to say from my own personal experience that I got on the EM2WL bandwagon and prest-ochange-o the world is a much happier and balanced place. I actually feel hunger, have excessive amounts of energy sometimes and have a more positive outlook on life. Not to mention the scale has begun moving in the right direction after completing my reset!
