Emotional breakdown during working. Am I alone?

I am on my second week of Insanity as well as first week of 30 day shred and I have been feeling so proud of myself. However, getting up motivation to workout today was unusually hard for me. I started the workout and I was just soo angry for some reason and twenty mins in out of nowhere I just busted out crying. I have no clue what made me so emotional. Has this happened with anyone else?

    Not to be too personal, but is it maybe close to your T.O.M.? My mind wanders when I work out, and when it's around that time for me, I will think of something random like, say, "feral cats colonies" or whatever and start getting weepy thinking of the poor little critters struggling to survive. I'm also usually grumpy and lethargic around that time too. Whatever the reason, I wouldn't worry too much unless it becomes an ongoing thing. Best of luck to you, dear.

    Doing Insanity and 30 Day Shred seems like a lot. Are you doing both every day? It could be stressing you out, which is resulting in the emotions.
  • When I saw the title of this post I expected it to be about going crazy at work. I was going to chime in with all the ridiculous things I do to deal with boredom on the job, but clearly there was a misunderstanding!

    Working out stresses the body. Sometimes it's really not easy. Maybe the extended effort has just caught up with you. Remember to take it easy. It's not all body fitness, you know; your mental/emotional fitness is very important too. c:

    I do the same thing, but it's more angry at myself. For getting myself in this situation and getting mad at myself for wanting to quit and slack off. But I also agree with the above poster (NannersBalet), too. Just blow it off and put it in your workout. :D You won't be crying because you worked too hard.

    I'm interested to see the responses to this thread because the exact same thing happens to me and no one has ever been able to explain why. Even if I'm doing awesome at a workout and feel good about it, I will suddenly just rage out or start sobbing uncontrollably (like full on hyperventilating, loud sobs). It seems unrelated to any particular emotional feeling (for example, the last time was when I was doing great on a P90X and didn't want to quit, but was crying so hard I nearly passed out). And I'm normally a very unemotional person, so it's bizarre and scary.

    For me, it occurs with cardio of any kind but not with weights and seems totally unconnected to any other factor. It makes me avoid cardio like the plague but I'd really like to do it for the positive effects, so hopefully someone knows.

    Yes. When your body is getting worn down physically, there is a tendency to be more emotionally "fragile." If you feel great, then keep doing it. But if you feel worn down and grumpy it may be your body telling you it's too much.

    Insanity is too intense of a program to pair along with something else unless you are a well-conditioned athlete. You're probably wearing yourself out, and not giving the body enough time to rest. I think you should back off one of these programs, make sure you're eating enough to fuel your body, AND make sure you're getting enough sleep.

    this happens to me but i'm just an emotional person in general. working out seems to make more so though.

    I punched my couch in the middle of Insanity once. Something about Insanity that day just wasn't doing it for me I guess. I read that sometimes the workout can be so intense on the body and mind that it releases everything that you may have been holding on to. Kinda like all that cardio has caused the dam to break.

    One I started crying in yoga class-very embarrassing. I think sometime we bottle up our emotions and lose touch with them. WHen we focus on connecting our mind and body-a very important and wonderful connection-sometimes we release things that are pent up inside that we are not consciously aware of. It's like when our muscles build up stress in trigger points and when touched in the right way and it's release it hurts then feels better. I hope once you got the tears out you felt a sense of release and I think it's very healthy to cultivate that sense of connection between our minds and bodies. Hugs to you!

    Working out is a great way to release physical and emotional energy. When I am really stressed out I have been known to push my workouts to the limit and on a couple of occasions have experienced emotional breakdowns like you described. Don't be so hard on yourself, its healthy to let that negative energy out.... however it happens.

    Fortunately I got to tears only once during a workout - unfortunately it was while working with the personal trainer (who is a guy). Ran to the bathroom before he could see then told him I had to throw up. Need to avoid that again at all costs!!!

    Oh my, whenever I think of homeless cats I get weepy no matter what time o' month it is :sad:

    I feed a colony of feral cats every day at my work (I even go down there on the weekends) :wink:

    I get you girl! This has happened to me and it had to do with the fact that I was putting in soo much effort and working so hard and it didn't feel like the weight was coming off fast enough. My friends on the other hand could do so much less and be fine so it's just frustration

    I was totally just upset today, and cried at the gym. Hasn't happened very often. I was just on some kind of edge, and the thought of making my day harder was too much. then I went up there on the elliptical anyway. Hahah UGH.

    Totally had a breakdown during the warm up of my Insanity workout. :sad: I think I was just feeling full from all the frustration and anger at not seeing the results I expected. Hope this helps someone else
