Hi all,
I reconnected with mfp a couple weeks ago and immediately dropped 4-5 lbs in the first week but the progress has come to a stand-still. I am diligently completing my food journal and staying within my calorie limits. I have also started walking/jogging every other day if not daily. Does anyone know what I can do to keep losing?

Your diary is closed so I can't really comment on your diet. What is your calorie intake right now?

I'd say probably if you committed to longer work outs more often you'd see some change.

You've been back for 17 days.

Taking off that first week you've been stuck for 10 days. That's not long! Keep being diligent and things do shift, but not linearly.
  • Damn girl I just noticed you lost 35lbs....was this using this app? I am on a damn rollercoaster ride :(
  • It is really important to consider the math and not just go by the scale which can swing wildly. Seeing that you do akido I'm guessing your daily calorie burn is 1900. So if you eat only 1200 cal per day you get a loss of 700 cal per day. In 5 days you lose one pound (3500 cal = 1 pound). You say you lost several pounds in a week. Unless you exercised like crazy you didn't burn enough calories to lose that weight and it is from some other cause like losing water. Your water will go up and down discouraging you but if you do the math you will know about where you should be. So you probably have 3 more weeks to break through that level with actual fat loss.

Do the math and see how many weeks/months it will take you to lose the weight you want. Then stay on plan and don't watch the scale so much. After 4 weeks see where you are in comparison to the math and that may give you a better assessment. There are no shortcuts and any quick losses are just an illusion not based on fat loss.

I hope this helps. Message me if you need more clarification
  • Oops. Sorry about the akido reference. My browser window got messed up but my message was meant for you.

I bet you're right. I'm frustrated because I wanted it to come off quickly and expected it to as soon as I started cutting calories and exercising more. Today I increased the length of my walk to 45 minutes and every other day I do a C to 5k training program. I really appreciate all of your support and advice. Thanks guys!

Most of it was with m.f.p.. I took a lengthy break and noticed I had been losing in the meantime as well. I had been following some advice my grandma gave me. She said a doctor once told her to eat about 1/2 to 1/3 of the amount her husband ate at each meal..I tried that and it does work. But it sucks because then you end up being hungry after meals. : /
