Staircase - OW!

I am living in the dorms at college and it's about a quarter-mile walk to the gym on campus, which is a great warmup most days but today was yucky rain-sleety and I didn't feel like it, so I had the great idea to use the stairs in my building, which has 13 stories. Great idea, right? OH. MY. GOODNESS. I live on the 11th floor, and my idea was to jog to the ground floor as a warmup, and then go up two, down one, until I got back to my floor. The first two flights were easy - so easy that I changed the plan to 3-2. And then on the second set, four steps from the top of the fourth floor - ow. Everything started to hurt. I finished my workout at more of a walk than a jog, barely able to breath, stopping to use the water fountain every couple of floors.
This gets easier, right?

YES YES YES!!! (it does get easier!) but stairs are awesome...i swear by them!
your idea is great and you should keep doing it. push yourself to keep a steady pace the entire time instead of going fast at first and slowing down by the end.
i used to do stairs in two capacities:
first i did it outside at our local art gallery....huuugggeee set of marble stairs overlooking a gorgeous pond/lake thing. I started by timing myself with songs on my ipod. (ie. run the stairs for 5 songs, etc.) i started in october....it got cold (and snowy!) quick so the bike ride and stair runs ceased over the winter--trading out for the eliptical trianer. when i started in the spring i had lost a significant amount of weight over the winter and running the stairs was such a breeze that i upped the songs from 5 to 7, then to 10, etc.
i also used to use the revolving stair climber (no, not a stair stepper...but the actual set of stairs that moves) sweat just POURS off. i hit a plateau, used the revolving stair climber and busted right through the plateau. definitely worth your time and sweat!

I do a stair routine as well. At work there are 7 floors and 4 stairwells. at lunch i go up and down about 7-8 flights, takes about 25 minutes and i can do it no matter what the weather and its free!!! and i did have to work up to this!!!0

OMG, I used the revolving stair climber for the first time in my life on Tuesday and I thought I was going to pass out. It is TOTALLY DIFFERENT than the stair stepper. I eventually caught a rhythm and was able to continue climbing at level 6 for the entire 30 minutes but you sure didn't lie when you said sweat pours off of you. I could not have climbed a minute before I was wiping sweat away. I could not wait til my 30 minutes was up but felt soooo good knowing I conquered it by not giving up.0
