When do you work out?

I struggle to find a good time to work out. I travel all the time for work, if I'm not traveling I am commuting all over which means I leave early and get home late. I have great intentions of going to bed early and getting up to work out but it never happens. I get home too late, can't sleep and then can't get myself up. I need to break this endless cycle.

How do you find the time?

I set the alarm for 4:15 a.m. and try and forget there is a sleep button. Work out until I have to get my husband and daughter out of bed and then walk on all my breaks at work and then come home and before my hubby comes home for dinner ~ put in another hour or so. They say that over the age of 40 you need to work out an hour a day just to MAINTAIN your weight. That comment has sunk in.

During the week get up at 4am, but lately i haven't been starting my workouts until 4:30. On the weekends i'll get up at 6am.

If you get home and can't sleep, work out then.

I just started working out in the morning before I go to work. For me that is 5:00am. I love it, because I feel good the rest of the day.

Usually around 11:00 -- I don't really sleep at all since having my daughter. Might as well get up. :drinker:

That's a good suggestion, thank you. I have to get myself into that mindset. Usually I'm exhausted from a day of traveling and working, all I can do is veg out on couch. I guess it's about forcing yourself, right?
  • I workout anytime between 3-9 but I choose earlier because I'm less tired and more motivated. I work out 6 days a week, switching it up a few times, this is my second week of my diet and I already feel better about myself...surprisingly I like to workout.

Last year when I lost 85 pounds I hated to workout..never looked forward to it but now I do.

You'll never FIND the time. You have to MAKE the time.

I get up at 5:05 M-F and am at the gym by 5:25. On weekends, I do Zumba at 8:30 on Sat and sometimes pick up anothe rworkout on Sunday.

It is. I've never been someone who liked working out so it's a challenge somedays, but I want to get off of this rollercoaster once and for all. Also, at work, walking with buddies helps make me accountable. They help me stick with it on days when I don't want to do it.

I work out at work and at night during the week. I work out in the mornings on my days off (weekends). Start small 10-15 mins of something simple that requires no equipment and very little space. That way I can do the routine almost anywhere. I walk in the basement of my job on my breaks. Then I work out with various DVDs at home for about 30 mins per night. I switch them up so that I don't get bored and my body doesn't adapt to the same workout.

You will find time when you are really ready to make the commitment. I usually don't do my evening workout until 9 or 10 at night. Sometimes 11. But it's only 30 mins. I cook the next day's meal. Read or do something else for me. Then work out and prep for the next day. All of that within the first 4 hours that I arrive home. And I'm raising 4 kids. It can and is being done. You'll get there when you're ready.

For me the time varies, but that's because my life is pretty chaotic right now. I don't belong to a gym because I have an absurd number of workout DVDs. Plus I'm living in my in-laws house to help them out (long story). Anyway, they sleep with their bedroom door open and so I cannot get up early or stay up very late and work out because it would disturb their sleep. I also have two small sons(3 1/2 and 1 years old) so I cannot do it while they're awake since the home is not child-proofed and that would be a disaster. So as long as my in-laws are out of the house at either a rehab or doctor's appointment then I exercise in the afternoon when the boys are napping. If not, I do a video after my Mother-in-law gets put in bed and my baby has fallen asleep. I put a movie on for my 3 1/2 year old to occupy him. I also pack the kids into my double stroller and take the dog on a walk every morning when we all wake up.

I work out in the evening at about 7 or 8...it is the best time of the day to exercise because you have a lot of energy from the food you ate during the day. It is also the time where I am free since I hate waking up really early....Although working out in the morning is easier to stick to so whatever floats your boat :)
