In general, how much do you have to weigh to fit on most rides at an amusement park? I know I am too heavy right now, but I am hoping by next summer I will be able to go and enjoy the rides. I have seen people have to get off a ride because the seat/safety latch wouldn't close down over they tummy and that Can Not happen to me.

That actually happened to me a couple years ago. SOOOOOOO embarrassing!!!!!!! I am 5' 7" and I was about 275 then. I refuse to go back to any amusement park until I know I will be able to enjoy myself without worrying about if I will fit or not!!!!!!

I would not however by the way suggest trying to get on a kiddy ride with your kid (if you have any) at that weight...not pretty and an EXTREMELY tight fit.
  • funny that you bring this up. i wont get on them for the fact i thought i was to fat. so last summer i promised my daughter i would lose some weight so i could ride with her. i am not sure how much you have to weigh but i would assume it would be pushing it bout 260lbs. i wont get on one until i am closer if not in the 100's

I couldn't fit in them last year, or the year before.... or the year before. This year I went to a few fairs/carnivals and went on every ride I could. :) I remember standing in a line for two hours, and then man laughed as he said I wouldn't fit. I cried so bad. It was embarrassing. Not my best day.

I was over 200 and couldn't fit. I weight 146 as of today and could fit with room (infact on one ride I held on tight because I thought I would slip out!

The rides that have straps that come over your shoulders may be the hardest to fit into. Certain parks will have carts discreetly off to the side and you can sit in those to see ahead of time if you will fit (I know DisneyWorld has that option). Also check out any message boards regarding the park and you may see some posts from folks talking about which rides are harder to sit comfortably in. This also helps if you are going with a tall person as some of the older rides may be too small for them to sit in without hurting their knees.

Last year, at my highest weight (245#), I was able to ride every ride (although one was tight) at Six Flags St. Louis. Went to another amusement park this summer weighing in at 195# and everything fit. I don't think it is really about weight, but about distribution. The ride that was tight for me just had a lap bar, but my legs are big. So I had to adjust how I was sitting to lower my legs.

Edited to add that I'm 5'7".

Wanted to add, since mmtrnr made a good point - the rides I couldn't fit were at Cedar point, ohio and one at kennywood, pittsburgh. (which I went to ten years ago and fit everything fine)
