Applebee's

Taking a friend out for her birthday at Applebee's. Suggestions on what to eat that won't blow me over my calorie range? I hate eating at restaurant chains that don't have many healthy options!!

They're "Under 550" calorie menu is alright. I had the steak and shrimp from that when I went last week and still stayed under my calorie goal for the day.

They have a pretty good weight watcher's menu (under 550 calories), but be careful with appetizers and drinks.

The under 550 calorie stuff is alright...beware the shrimp though...it has ridiculous amounts of sodium...it's crazy! I had the sirloin steak meal the last time we visited and it was decent.

Most of the meals are actually in the MFP database...One of the best pieces of advice I can give you about eating out is to plan your meal in advance. Know what you're going to order and do your very best not to deviate! Knowledge is power! LOL

I completely agree which is why I am trying to plan before tonight! I do not like food high in sodium, it makes me quite sick. Hate eating at most major chains. no options.

It was terrible the last time we ate there. They closed ours here.

Have some salmon and veggies. That's good for you and low calorie too. It's pretty hard to mess up fish as a healthy meal unless it's fried.
  • Here's a link to their nutritional information: http://www.applebees.com/~/media/docs/Applebees_Nutritional_Info.ashx

Last time I was there, they had some lower calorie options that were really good, but nearly everything on the menu is loaded with sodium.

Ever put salt on apples? I would not worry so much about calories, I would worry about sodium at Salterbees!

If you go for lunch (mon-fri) they have there Pick N Pair special $7.99... I got Tomato Basil Soup and Fiesta Chicken Salad for under 500cals...you could do better if you ask for no cheese/croutons in the soup and salad, but I didnt, it was delicious!
  • The grilled chicken on the low-calorie menu is pretty good. The portion sizes are really good and you don't feel like you have eaten a ton.
  • This is an occasional problem with Applebees.....seems they go in and out on quality. Unfortunately, you may have to eat again to make up for the losses:explode:
