Ice cream shop

I'm going to this ice cream shop near me that's only open during the summer. I usually get two scoops (huge scoops) in a waffle cone. I want to enjoy something there, but I don't know what would be a good choice. I have no idea how many calories are in any of the flavors. They have frozen yogurt, but I don't like the two flavors offered. I was thinking maybe one scoop of any flavor in a cone/cup? I've heard it's better to go with a flavor without mix-ins, such as vanilla (which is actually my favorite flavor). They do have good cookie dough ice cream though... Also, how would I log it in MFP without knowing the calories? I'm trying not to be obsessive because that's what has led me to past eating disorders, but I am trying to hold myself accountable. Thanks. :)

Just eat the ice cream and enjoy it, bank a few hundred cals for it and if the ice cream happens to be more then that, no worries, just get on track tomorrow

sorbet tends to be lower cal, or at least lower fat.
i get what you mean with not obsessing about it more to go back to an ed, i'm there too this weekend with my fiance's bd.
perhaps do a search of your fave flavors and see what comes up but if you don't do this every day, and seriously like once a year then i wouldn't worry too much over it.

I'm like you. I over-think it and freak myself out. I usually just end up NOT getting it cause I dont want to worry about it or feel guilty. But, Acg67's answer/advice was much better to take ;)

If I "must" have something like that, I get frozen yogurt for sure, in a cup, and I ask for "kiddy size"

    Enjoy :-)

I usually type in the flavor of ice cream, and look at the different choices then pick the one that would be made with full fat ingredients, or one that comes closest. A normal serving size is 1/2 cup, I try an approximate the serving and generic waffle cones are in the database.

Get a scoop of whatever you want. You can probably find the calories in mfp, just do a search for vanilla ice cream cone. I just had ice cream, then went for a long walk. You can fit it in, so you don't feel deprived.
  • I would just log it as Ice Cream - Vanilla or Generic - Soft Serve depending on if it is hard or soft ice cream. Generally one scoop is 1/2 cup (and I'm talking a scoop not leveled off but how you would really scoop it).

if it's a once a year thing, just eat it. This is about moderation.

Just eat it, forgive yourself, and move on. I would also assume that Ice Cream is Ice Cream, I am sure there is a generic calorie count in the database for a scoop. Just guesstimate and go from there. It's not like it's going to be an everyday thing. One of the worst things you can do in my opinion is to deny yourself something. Especially if it's only seasonal thing. Just enjoy. A scoop or two of Ice Cream isn't going to sabotage all your efforts.

If you can find a website for the shop that lists the calories, I would go by that and just log it as best as you can in MFP with that info. If not, I would enjoy my ice cream (probably just going for a single scoop as you stated) and get back on plan the next day. You gotta have a treat now and then :)

@The_Dragon27: it doesn't have a list anywhere. It's a small town kind of shop where they have their own farm and make the ice cream with the cow's milk.

I definitely don't want to deny myself because that just makes me binge, so I'll just see what happens. :)
