Need Protein Shakes -- help!

I often don't have much time to make breakfast in the morning, so I'm thinking of starting to make protein shakes. I was hoping to find a recipe that also included spinach/kale, berries, and/or CocoaVia (I'm interested in trying that and drinking the cocoa powder instead of eating dark chocolate). Any suggestions? I could get the BeachBody shakes but I don't want to pay $150 for a three-pound bag of the stuff.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you already have most of your ingredients planned out... are you looking for something in specific, or just tasty shakes (I make mine with fruit so can't help you much).

I sometimes use a tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder in my smoothies to change it up. Works really well and doesn't send the carbs through the roof.

I like and do everything you mentioned, plus beet greens. I hate them any other way - but LOVE them in smoothies. :)

Kinda. I'm hoping that a shake would be an easy way to get more greens and fruit in, but not really sure on what else to add--milk? almond milk? whey? etc. I would like it to be decent tasting, but include some greens/fruit as well.

Does unsweetened cocoa powder have the same benefits as dark chocolate (like CocoaVia claims)? Just curious because if I can get the flavonols that way, I'll ditch the Gharidelli and save myself some cals for other things

@Ash_ah_lee: I'll have to check out those shakes! I see them a lot in my area.
@ladytinkerbel: Are those the leaves of the beet plant? Interesting... :)

My favorite shake, ever is a blueberry cheesecake protein shake.

    1 c berries
1/2 c cottage cheese (just do it!)
    1 scoop vanilla protein powder
    1 tsp vanilla extract
1 oz. fat free cream cheese and/or 1 TBSP of jello cheesecake flavored pudding mix
    1/2-2/3 tsp xanthan gum
1/4-1/2 c milk, depending on your desired thickness
ice-again depending on your desired thickness

whiz until smooth. I've added spinach to this and it doesn't change the flavor in the least. ;)

A close second place fave is one that tastes similar to a cake batter:

    1 TBSP almond butter
    1 scoop vanilla protein powder
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    1/2 c cottage cheese
    1/4-1/2 milk (depending on thickness)
    1/2-2/3 tsp xanthan gum
1 TBSP coconut oil (if you can spare the calories; I usually can, and do. I love the taste of coconut oil in my shakes).
    ice (depending on thickness)

whiz until creamy. I've also added spinach to this without changing the flavor (just today, actually...) :)

    My average shake generally includes

1-2 scoops of vanilla whey (26-52g of protein)
1/2 - 1 cup of frozen berries... blueberries, strawberries or raspberries
    1/2 - 1 cup of 1% milk
    100g of Greek style yogurt
1 tbsp cocoa powder (about half the time)

Depending on how many calories I'm trying to get out of the shake, there are also ways to increase the number of calories in it (handful of almonds, handful of oats, adding a banana, etc). I vary it up but as I mentioned, I prefer fruits... I don't do well at drinking veggies, I strongly prefer steaming those. (Except kale gets made into chips)

The cocoa powder in whatever mix that you're mentioning is the source of the flavinoids. Any cocoa powder will have them. :)

Edit: I use frozen berries both for ease of storage and for the fact that I don't have to add ice.

Awesome, thanks so much W0lfstar! Good to know I can use the cocoa powder in my baking cupboard rather than having to buy anything special. That mix sounds really good--I'll have to give it a try!
