NET Calories................

Ok someone help me understand NET calories....So you log the food you eat, and the exercise and that gives you your total Intake for the day.

In analysis, it uses Net to mean the difference between your Intake and Burn.

So Intake - Burn = Net.

If Net is positive (Intake is greater than Burn) you have a calorie surplus, which leads to weight gain.

If Net is negative (Intake is less than Burn) you have a calorie deficit, which leads to weight loss.

If Net is zero (Intake is the same as Burn) you have a calorie balance, which leads to weight maintenance.

It is very hard to get it and keep it at a negative, I seem to be okay until you add in dinner.

Just curios if anyone has any thoughts. I am probably complicating it.

Ya know it's a good question... However is u are burning off all the calories you in a day I see weight loss but it's not recommended. My doctor said to jut not eat back the exercise calories because in general if we eat only 1400 calories we burn 2200 just breathing all day. So if you eat 1400 and exercise 400 cald off that leaves u with 1000 calories eaten which woul result in a loss because it's less than we normally eat. I'm not so sure if negative calories is healthy. Who knows tho?! In addition my doc says to work out 90 minutes 5x a week in order to lose weight, 60 min of cardio 5x a week to maintain.... Most think he nuts but he's diagnosed me with correct diagnosis when others couldn't.....

Net is what your body has left to function with after you burned everything else off. You're supposed to eat back your calories because if you go by MFP, you are already eating at a deficit and then if you go and exercise, it puts you even lower. Having a minus net is very bad, how is your body supposed to function? It's like your car running on empty. For me personally, I skipped MFP calorie recommendation because 1300 calories for me was way too low. I felt tired and had no energy, cranky. I have a Bodymedia Fit and I figured out that my total daily calorie burn is around 2000-2200 before even stepping foot in a gym and then from there I take a 500 calorie deficit in order to lose 1 lb a week. So I eat anywhere from 1600-1800 calories and since I'm already eating that much, then I don't eat back my exercise calories unless I have this incredible burn. Yes, you want to have a calorie deficit to lose weight but you also need to fuel your body!

You are supposed to aim for net = your original calorie goal. For Example : your daily goal is 1500 but you burned 350 in exercise today. You eat 1850. Then you net 1500.
