Yet Another BMR Question...

Hey guys! So I've been reading through some of the older forum posts trying to understand the deal with BMR. I currently have MFP set up so that I lose 2lbs a week (consume 1250 cals/day). Although, I've seen in multiple places that I should atleast eat my BMR in cals. Mine is currently 1638. I always eat my 1250 + cals burned at the gym, which usually means, for the day, I consume ~1800 cals. Should I change my eating habits so that I am eating my BMR + cals burned during workouts, or is this already set up correctly for me? I'm just worried about not consuming enough for efficient weight loss. Any advice is much appreciated!

MFP already includes your BMR (Basal metabolic Rate), that's where most of your recommended 1250 total comes from. Your BMR is the amount of calories your body burns by itself if you just stay in bed all day, it is the minimal amount of calories you need just for your body to function. Certain websites state my BMR as higher that MFP does also, but I'm comfortable with MFP's estimate because I exercise enough to get my daily calories to 1800 as well (we seem to be on about the same plan). Eat back any calories you burn during exercise to stay energized and to feel too hungry/restricted. If you still feel hungry/lethargic or restricted I would think it's okay to bump your daily cals up, but make sure you stick to your original plan for at least a month before you make changes to it so you have a base to make judgements off of regarding MFP's recommendations.

Here's a great link that helps explain BMR and why you shouldn't worry about it too much : http://body-improvements.com/resources/eat/

    Hope this helps, good luck!
