I was wondering something about the stickers. I'm training right now to run a half marathon. I'm doing about 7 miles a day right now, so I'm sure I can do one now. I'm going to start doing an actual training program next week (Hal Higdon).
The thing is, I'm not sure when/where the next half marathon is. I don't know if I'll have the time to do a formal one.
Here's my question:
Do I need to actually complete a formal race to legitimately get a sticker for my car?
Or can go do a race's course, and get my sticker?

Anyone can put a sticker on the back of their car. However, there is nothing like crossing the actual finish line of a race to really give you that sense of pride and accomplishment! You can find a race, they are all over the place. Have fun and good luck0

Active.com/running has a list of marathons. You can also google
Rock and roll marathons.
I thought you bought your own sticker. I went to Oklahoma City with my friend, she did a half and I did a 5k but neither one of us got a sticker. I saw plenty for sale a the pre event expo.0 -
You don't automatically get stickers when you complete a race, people just buy them to put on their cars to show what they've accomplished. I got one in a race packet once, but it was a Geico ad and had the name and Geico gecko on it (plus it was for 13.1 and I wasn't running that distance in the race events that weekend)
Personally, I wouldn't put the sticker for a distance on my car until I've completed an official race with distances marked and measured. Number 1 - because GPS fitness trackers and local mileage markers aren't always 100% accurate, so you may not be really hitting those exact distances. Number 2 - I see it as a badge for the official finish.
But I also won't wear a race shirt until after I've completed the race itself either.
I've thought about finally getting a 13.1 sticker (magnet, actually, I don't put stickers on my car), since I did finally run my first half back in April, but I don't really consider myself a "runner" so I don't know if I feel strongly enough about it to put it out there.0 -

You generally get finisher medals when you cross the finish line:
The stickers/magnets you can buy yourself, try any running store or amazon.0
