Are chips really that bad for you??

As other have said, anything in moderation is probably okay. But I think when you are striving to change your bad habits, it is not in your best interest to give into cravings that will likely lead you back to your old habits.
I am a chip freak myself, but I have chosen not to have them because I really don't see any benefit. My own choice is to try to make healthy substitutions for the long haul. So why sabotage myself along the way. I know my weaknesses and wont indulge them.
Good luck in everything you do.0 -
Chips, for me, are something I usually want at lunch if I want them at all. So I'll go ahead and pre-log the rest of the day with low fat stuff to offset the chips. As far as I'm concerned, if the FAT macro is a good number for the day, it doesn't do any harm.0

As long as your nutrition is good overall your boyfriend is wrong.
Also, I need to stop clicking on threads like this. I would KILL for some chips right now.
LOL, sorry! :ohwell:0 -

Thank you, I can see your logic in doing this. I might start making my own sweet potato "chips" at home in place of buying packaged chips. I do agree, old habits are super tough to break. I guess I think what's the harm if I can control the portion. I've never had trouble controlling portions unless I drink too much wine and then I'm done for!
Anyhow, appreciate this view and good luck right back atcha! Thanks!0 -
The only thing I would be concerned about is the sodium. It could cause you to hold water, which would make it look like the scale is not moving.
I would avoid them for the 2 days prior to your weigh in day, and down ton of water to help make sure you're getting an accurate reading on the scale. Otherwise, All the power to you. It's a proven fact that a calorie is a calorie, and that if your recommended calorie intake is 1500 calories, it doesn't matter where those calories come from.
Not a great message, we should all strive for a healthier lifestyle, not just a skinnier one, but it's just to point out that a calorie is a calorie, no matter it's origin.0 -
Agreed that a calorie is a calorie, but there are still good vs bad choices when consuming them.
I would rather get my body craving a big juicy apple with some almond butter than something that has no nutritious benefits whatsoever. I am trying to make choices that not only satisfy my mouth, but my health needs.
I'm not judging...believe me. I just have a new mindset that I tell myself that food is my fuel and not my reward. I want to like what I eat, but I want to like myself after I eat too. Going to bed feeling proud and clean....that's an awesome feeling for me.0 -
I know my view is not popular but it's just my view. No one has to agree with it or follow it. I just like to add another way to look at things.
I kind of think of it as if I were a recovering alcoholic...just one drink won't hurt. Won't it?
Please keep posting as honestly as you are. I love reading and learning how others think. It's why we are all here after all.
I would welcome your friend request should you choose to do so.
Best of luck to you.0 -
Out of curiosity, what exactly is he basing his statement on?
A lack of understanding about how things work, apparently.
OP: Totally fine provided you're not eating in a calorie surplus.
LOL! I won't read this response to him. He's already mad that "everyone is against him.".
It's not that we're "against" him.... he's just wrong lol... There has been a lot of evolution in the weight loss schools of thought over the last 10 years. My mom was an aerobics instructor in the early 80s, and trying to bust up some of her thinking on what was conventional wisdom back then has been tough, but she's seen my positive results and it's gone a long way to changer her opinion. Just stick with it.0
