I have a wicked head cold that hit me on Friday. My energy level is way down so I've disctontinued eating at a calorie deficit ... thinking that this will help me to get through this cold faster. Thoughts?

I wouldn't give so much concern to my diet, but would try to make sure I was taking in enough fluids and resting enough. Curiously, I find that when I am feeling like I'm coming down with something I tend to want high calorie comfort food, I know there is no real food that is going to make me feel better, but mentally....well, my body begs to differ. As long as you are not eating junk, eating at a higher calorie intake for a couple of days is not going to sabotage you.0

When I don't feel good I could care less about my diet. This is just how I am, I don't claim this to be good/bad/etc.0

When Im sick, I dont give a rat's *kitten* about food. I just make sure I stay well hydrated, I eat what I can eat, and if it means I could only hold down 700 calories because Im sick as a dog (chronic upper resp infection pt), so be it. Its usually a period of time when all I want is homemade chicken vegetable soup. And, that is all I eat when Im sick.
Give your body a break, rest up!!!!0 -
i had the flu a few weeks ago.
i didn't keep my carbs under 20. but because i couldn't swallow, i probably only ate 600 cals.
i lost 4 pounds0 -
It's miserable being sick, do whatever will make you feel better. I eat up to my maintenance calories anytime I feel like it but I don't tend to be hungry when I'm sick so I wouldn't feel a need to increase my calories and would probably end up eating way under.0

When I am sick I don't want food. I do the best I can and that's it.0

In the past, I've used illness as an excuse to go off my diet (I get sinus infections despite having had surgery). Then I have such trouble getting back on the diet and feel bad about the weight I've gained. So yes, I do watch what I eat.0

Honestly. No. My biggest food triggers are:
Sick: If I am sick, I will eat whatever settles in my stomach. If I can only keep ice cream and ginger ale down. Thats what I'm going to eat. haha. I also believe that you need to listen to what your body craves when your sick because it will tell you what you need. Sometimes that might be sugar or fat.
Overly tired: I'm not talking about a typical long day. I'm talking about a hellish day that makes you want to crash into your bed fully clothed. If I am that tired, just feed me so I can sleep.
Starving: If I haven't eaten due to life getting in the way and I get so overly hungry I feel sick. Well, I am more then likely going to go for something that is quick no matter what the cals are.0 -
I spent last week feeling sick ...... lived on ginger ale (not diet, either) and pretzel sticks ....... whatever gets us through :drinker:
Feel better !0 -
H-E to the Double L NO!! Depending on what's wrong, sometimes I can't even eat. I had some sort of bug last week that caused me to throw up *every* time I put something on my stomach. I felt *fine* otherwise. I didn't lose or gain, either, but point is, when somethin ain't right, I'm going to listen to my body and let it control me for a couple days. I'm usually right back on my feet in no time.0

Feel better! Define "stick to." If my stomach is bothering me, it's going to be jell-o and chicken soup and ginger ale all the way. Now, granted, chicken soup is not exactly high-calorie . . .0

Same here. We had some friends over for a BBQ yesterday and I drank lots of water and stayed away from the goodies for most of the day but afterwards had to sample the apple pie, lemon meringue pie, ice cream ... and a few more high calorie items to boot!0
