Tattoos

I would really like to get a tattoo when I lose half the weight I am working towards. On the other side of the fence, I feel like I should wait til I lose all the weight. Does it make a difference? I am worried about how it will look after I lose more weight, or does it not make a difference? This will be my first one, so I wasn't sure.

Thanks!

it shouldn't matter, I have 12 and have hone from 140-230 with my weight and they all look good still =) I can see if maybe you got one on your stomach or something like that, it might get a little weird looking, but it'll even out when the skin stretches back.

Where were you thinking of getting the tattoo? If it's somewhere like your stomach it may look slightly different if you lose a significant amount of weight..but most other places should be fine.

Really depends on where you opt to get it and how much you still have to lose. I have a couple, but I always chose a spot that won't likely stretch out too much over time (due to weight gain, etc). Like the back of my ear, inner ankle, etc. Dextress is definitely right that the stomach may be a little different. I would say the back would be a little difficult as well. Shoulders, feet and other bonier/flatter areas would be easier.

When I was preparing for each of my tattoos, I always thought about that. I aimed for places that don't tend to change as much..ankle, top of foot, shoulders and middle of my back. They still look perfect now that I have lost weight, and are more fun to show off! Good luck and enjoy! :drinker:

Make sure its what you REALLY want and in a place you want it to be. Tattoo removal is Expensive with no guarantees of removal, and theres only so much an artist can do with cover ups. I let a friend do mine and it was a disaster.

As far as waiting, I would personally wait so it would be a reward for achieving my goal plus give me time to contemplate what and where I want. Everybodies skin is diferent some have no problems stretching and shrinking some do.

consider where you're getting your tattoo. I have one on my calf. and get something near and dear to your heart and that will be for decades to come. I personally have a two year rule, meaning if i decide what and where i want it and don't change my mind for 2 years i can get it. Also, pay the extra for good quality. a good tattoo artist can help place the tattoo on your body cause a lot of them have seen all kinds of ink.

I think you should have a reward for every goal you've set....for me I go buy a pair of shoes (at 10 lbs) or a new outfit (at 20 lbs). When I hit my 30 pound mark I bought a Coach purse!
When I loose that 70 pounds I told my husband that I want a boob job. I just want to fill up that skin that's loose now lol:sad: I don't want to look like a porn star...lol  so to answer your question....whatever you want...GO FOR IT
  • tattoos are the best! u do feel different about yourself after u get it. good luck get one that means something to u.

ink rocks and is a great way to award your accomplishments. I make sure mine are on tight skinned areas.

I agree with the poster about quality artist. Pay for the good stuff. You will regret everything about it if you get a bad artist.

I have a huge piece on my back and it shrunk with me. It didn't get warped at all. It all depends on where you are getting it :)

It really depends on where you want to get it and how much you want to lose. I got my sides tattooed when I was 18 (around 120lbs) I went up to 160lbs and got stretch marks on my hips. They went into the tattoos but they don't really make them look any different. It's really up to you. I'd say if you're going to get it done on your lower stomach, hips, lower back to wait, but if it's your calf, shoulder, arm. I'd go for it.

You should be good, I lost all sorts of weight and have had tattoos through the entire process. Nothing got messed up or altered at all!

It doesn't make a difference on most places. Just avoid the stomach area for now.

What kind of tattoos do women find sexy on men? masculine ones like guns and grim reapers or more artistic ones like roses and landscaping? I was thinking of getting a tattoo of a mountain range with a river flowing from down from the range. I haven't found a tattoo artist willing to take on the project.

I just got one on my back last week after losing 80lbs! I'm not done losing weight but I'm not worried about it looking bad when I am done. Like everyone else said- it just depends on where you want it.

Thanks everyone! I want to get one on my lower back and then my shoulder. I just think it is a nice way to really have a new me. I have wanted one for a while. I really like the idea of the 2 year rule. Apparently, I have passed. LOL! One I have wanted to get for a few years and the other one is two years!

    Thanks so much everyone!
