Was going to post this on the "exercise" forum but figured it might be taken a bit wrong by those wanting to burn calories with proper exercise.
- I'm quite happy to continue with my leg bouncing / finger twirling.

What's your fidgeting habit/s?

Do you get told off?

If yes, by who?

I am not a big fidgeter at present, but I plan to rectify that after reading this article. I am pretty sure that I used to get a clip around the ear for fidgeting as a child, so that probably put paid to my fidgeting. When I do fidget if seated I twitch my legs or tap my fingers. When standing, I tend to swing my legs a lot (I am highly imamature).

I did check, and MFP do not list fidgeting as an exercise under cardio (yet).

Haha, I hadn't thought of this, seeing as I don't eat calories back.

I'm a chronic leg bouncer - have been told off by mum and friends when I inadvertently start making the chair squeak / desk bounce / other annoying repetitive noises.

Fidgeting is good for the soul ;)

If I didn't already fidget a lot, I'd be excited about this, but since I do, it's not going to make much difference to my day to day. I am always in almost constant motion. If it's not my leg shaking, it's my fingers tapping, or I'm stretching or tapping my toes....it's a bad habit...haha.

I think we can now declare fidgeting to be a good habit. If I see a parent scolding their child in public for fidgeting I shall step in and tell them they are wrong. I am sure they will appreciate my interference :smokin:

I was trying to convince my MIL of this the other day. She was scolding my husband for fidgeting, saying that it was going to increase his stress level. Really? I mean, REALLY?? :noway:

I fidget...but I have Tourettes so even though it does burn calories, I would rather just exercise them off....sigh....

Chronic leg bouncer while sitting at a desk (doing it now, lol). And when I watch TV in bed or get on the laptop while lying down, I flex and unflex my butt really fast. No idea why. Lol, usually about the same speed as my leg bouncing.

    I know, I know. I'm weird.

years ago my WW leader told us fidgeting does burn extra calories, so i do things like pace when i'm on the phone and switched to one of the big "core balls" to use at the computer and do light bouncing non stop. i switched to a regular chair back in january and within a month i was wondering what the He** happened to my thighs cause they got so big!

It's a nice way of seeing if your metabolism has slowed down too if you used to be fidgety and no longer are.

Studies like this one have shown it's the RMR that goes down more than expected on big deficits.

The body finds a way to conserve energy if it's not getting enough for the basal needs, heat production for staying warm, fidgeting, nair/hair/skin growth, ect.

    Interesting find.

Of course - but always nice to have numbers to front the beliefs

i swing my leg....move leg up and down when I am sitting....I think some of that is because I am usually listening to music
