It's just food. Even the healthiest people can end up sick. You can't control that much about your body, you can just hope that you're providing it enough nourishment to get through illness.

I'm definitely aiming towards using food as medicine as much as possible, and am quite fortunate to have a doctor who supports this approach. I doing great after 2 years of tweaking my diet and using supplements when necessary to address a variety of problems I had suffered for years. My migraines, for example, used to be almost constant - and the usual migraine meds weren't really helpful. This doctor figured out that the headaches were mostly being caused by gluten and cowmilk. By eliminating those from my diet I no longer need meds and don't get the headaches. So I've become very picky about what I eat.

I think what you eat makes a major difference to you physical and mental health.

I had a year of being quite miserable and eating a lot of junk, fast food, take aways, a lot of sugary stuff. Within the blink of an eye I put on 40 pounds, my skin was awful, my hair looked dull, I was out of breath, unstable mood, low energy...

I stopped all this two months ago, came to MFP on 7th June, reduced my ridiculous amount of fast carbs, upped my protein and good fats... I try to eat foods which are rich in nutrients, not empty calories.

Not only have I lost 9lb so far and 4" off my waist, I see notice other differences...

My energy and mood is much more balanced, I look and feel healthier, my hair is much nicer and my nails are growing much quicker. And when I have a bruise or a cut it heals much faster. :drinker:
