Treadmill readings

How accurate are the calorie measurements on treadmills? The one I usually use asks for age and weight then provides a calorie count at the end of the exercise period. I'm concerned that it may be overstating how hard I've worked. Any solutions?

I was wondering the same for my elliptical Mine don't ask for weight or anything but the readings are lower then they show on here but
I was told that on here it goes by weight and I rechecked and it does. Depending on what you way is how much you burn so I was told to go by what MFP says. Have you compared the readings on the treadmill to the readings here?0 -
My treadmill over estimates. I was just on mine yesterday and it said I burned almost 700 calories while my heart rate monitor said 5000
